I have yet to come across a single MS/X owner that thinks like that. Why the paranoia?
You must live a bubble. Don't be ridiculous. Of course many will think that way. I live in a zipcode that may have the highest penetration of Teslas in the country. Do these folks drive Teslas because they're wonderful human beings? Ba ha ha ha ha ha ha! My guess is that, for the same reason no one drives a BMW Series 3, no one will drive a Tesla Model 3. Too much of apparent wannabe car.

That doesn't mean the Model 3 is a bad choice just as it doesn't mean a Rolls Royce or a Bentley is a good choice. It's just that at these price levels it's mostly about conspicuous consumption.

Have you considered that perhaps the bubble surrounds you?
Of course. I live in the same bubble they do. I'm just pointing out what life in the bubble is like. ;)

Last year I was with a friend when we got rear ended (at slow speed) by a woman driving a MB S Class sedan. The first thing she told us was that her husband was a very successful lawyer. I told her that, given her obvious wealth, our settlement demands had just added a zero. Or our neighbor's son who told his parents that he was tired of living "in the ghetto" (small guest house and ... NO POOL). He was totally serious. So funny but that's life in the bubble.

Pretty much agree with this...I'm in a similar but far smaller area in the beach cities which lead to residents feeling even more entitled...Words are very subjective, dictionary's vary word to word, not everyone would even agree what a DBag even means...Yet most would agree Coastal CA has a ton of them regardless if they drive a Tesla or not...

Yes, I almost forgot about that. It was code on their website that they forgot to hide. My reservation_id was 37400#, so I'm 24,00# in line. Of course that is after all of the previous owners and Tesla/SolarCity employees, so who knows.

So far in this thread I have been called a smug, Dbag and now I am not even a wonderful human being just for owning a Tesla.

Those are pretty big generalities to make for people you don't even know. Along with the certainty of what those people want you must be a psychic to have these abilities. Otherwise I am just sensing some deep resentment towards Tesla owners.

For some reason the people that have EVs that I meet are pretty nice. They are full of smiles and genuinely interested in what EV have to offer no matter what brand you are driving. Then again I don't go in with an attitude that all those other drivers are Dbag because they drive something different than I do. Maybe that is your problem when you interact with Tesla owners you project an utter disdain for them and you get a similar reaction back. Maybe it is just like Mister Dave said it is you that are in the bubble.

Another Smug, Dbag that is definitly not a wonderful human being helping out an unconscious driver: http://www.autoblog.com/2017/02/16/tesla-repairing-good-samaritan-model-s/?icid=aol-com|dl

I am sure they got the car wrong though because anyone inside DonC bubble would never scratch their precious conspicuous consumption mobile to help others.

There was an article published soon after the Model 3 unveil where a handful of Model S owners chimed in on their thoughts. One of the owners went "$35k 3 owners better not get the same priority as me, since I paid $140k for my S and I expect preferential treatment from Tesla!".
I'm sure she isn't the only S/X owner harboring such thoughts.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating. The days of the "generic EV forum" have mostly come to a close...congrats guy: YOU ARE ALL ON A CAR FORUM - the VOLT/BOLT CAR FORUM TO BE SPECIFIC! I see it on all of them now: the i3 forum, Volt forum, Tesla forum, etc. They all look a LOT more like every other car forum I have frequented for years (Camaros, BMWs, muscle cars, etc.) than they do some "green, we care about the planet" environmental cause forum. Each of these forums touts the benefits of their particular make/model and generally downplays the competition. The discussions will eventually move toward "mods" and lean towards "performance" and DIY repair topics, etc. soon enough - especially as the "second owners" like me come in. Sure there are still the green aspects of it, but it is slowly fading into the background.

Indeed, I leased a gen 1 Volt in 2012 because it was an interesting car and I thought saving gas would be a nice bonus I could use to justify getting one. At the end of the lease though I knew I wanted to be back in something with more performance, but liked the electric driving experience hence why I am now in a CPO P85+. I have two other buddies who picked up new Model Ses last year. Both did it for the performance and electric driving feel. One had tried out electric with a Focus FFE, but previously, both had driven high HP coupes and sedans (Vette, M5, CTS-V, etc.).

Welcome to the "car guy" club....come on in, the water's fine. ;>

I think by playing the victim card you're proving the point. (I didn't say Tesla owners weren't nice people. What I said was people didn't buy Teslas because they're nice. Big difference.) So why did you buy a Tesla? And spare me the "it's a great vehicle" routine. The reason people buy a Tesla is that it's the prefect Veblen vehicle -- very expensive with less utility than a thousand other cars. After the IPO you used to see a bunch of new Porsches in the parking lot. Now you see a bunch of new Model S/X. Basically it's the Veblen vehicle phenomenon at work. (And no, I'm not jealous. If I wanted a Tesla I'd have one. But I do find the whole conspicuous consumption thing to be amusing.)

Nothing wrong with this. It's your money and you can spend it like you want to. But at least own the reasons you own one. FWIW I haven't found someone driving a Tesla to be any more likely to be a PITA driver than someone driving a BMW or Audi. And I'm delighted that people want a Tesla rather than a Porsche. Works just fine for me.
