WOT, while the shipping latency is unfortunate, you should not have to apologize. GM should revise the part, or change the programming to avoid this costly and annoying problem.

I'm really glad my bumper-to-bumper is good for 1.5 years yet. I sure hope getting through that period without the SHVCS message appearing, will serve as some kind of indication that I never will.

Car works great, so glad to have it back! Overall I'm glad the dealer informed me of unusual stuff, and especially glad they agreed to perform my request. Thanks WOT for this wonderful fix. I doubt I will ever see this obnoxious message again.
You're welcome. Great to hear!

Just remember to occasionally check all 3 of your coolant levels at least monthly (as outlined in your owner's manual)

Ditto. I sent an e-mail Sunday but no reply yet. The bugger is that in Paypal the status says it shipped, gives a tracking number but CPC won't let me track it.
If paypal has created a tracking number then it definitely has shipped. Hopefully any day now Mr Dave.

In other words, even GM can't beat the parts delivery time, hahaha. :)
lol I suppose that's pretty good! (insert theme from "Lowered Expectations") lol

I wish that I could be as confident in that as you are!
I basically watched most all the cars around me (mostly family and friends) slowly drop off the SHVCS cliff over the course of the last 2-3 years. (many repeatedly!)
When it became clear to me that there would be no recall/campaign I simply had to take creating a solution into my own hands.

Plugs received and installed

I received my two plugs last week. Installed them on Saturday using the WOT preferred method of disconnecting the 12v battery negative lead. It took me a while to disconnect the sensor plug as I was pulling on the part attached to the tank rather than down closer to the harness. No DTC's after installation. Thanks WOT.

Yes, as described in the instructions the release latch of the connector is a bit tricky as it's on the FRONT of the connection (closest to the radiator)

Another option is to simply push the entire assembly towards the front of the car to release the sensor and connector from the reservoir.

OK, so is this the plug I need to remove? And where do I insert the defeat plug? Into the coolant tank part, or the loose dangley plug?

WOT's plug is intended to take the place of the sensor in your pic so you would disconnect the sensor and then insert the connector into his plug and then tiewrap it back onto the loom out of the way using the single tie wrap that was enclosed. I just ended up leaving the sensor in-place but you could also remove this if you wish...

Thanks somms
Yes, plug WOT's Coolant Level Sensor into the harness connector after disconnecting, (make sure you don't lose the small rubber seal on the connector) then fold back and secure with the plastic wire tie as somms describes

You can leave the old sensor where it is, or remove it and use it for batting practise! ;)

Coolant sensor bypass install

I received my sensor bypass yesterday. The supplied instructions were very clear and I followed the "preferred" procedure and disconnected the 12v battery. There is no drama doing this like in my Leaf, which would lose all radio presets, and all customized settings. Real PITA. All I had to reset in my Volt was the date and time, and turn the cruise control back on! So no worries. It is a little snug working in that area, small hands help! I've attached a photo of how I tucked the sensor bypass in front of the coolant reservoir. The car is working normally after install. Thanks for a good fix WOT!

Thanks for the update and picture. Mine is "still in the mail" apparently.

Out of curiosity, what is the sensor bypass for? A TSB or something?
In short, the stock sensor is prone to failing at some point, which results in a DTC that only the dealer can clear. If you keep up on monitoring your fluids, you can replace it with a 'static value' sensor which will ensure you don't have an erroneous failure message and a trip to the dealer.

They come from an address in Alberta, CA. Mine took from the 9th to the 22nd of Sept. to arrive, and it was posted airmail! Must have been flying a cub or Stearman! WOT did keep me in the loop and checked and confirmed shipping.

Yes, son#2 is constructing the WOTs Coolant Level Sensor to my specifications. (I simply don't have the time and besides I'm an old man with questionable soldering skills) lol
He is married to a Canadian gal and lives out west in Calgary Canada.

The shipment should take place within 7 business days of ordering and they are being shipped to the U.S. via "small packet" airmail service. The delivery standard for this service is 4-10 business days (I presume depending on location)

So please expect 2-3 weeks for delivery. If it's been longer than 3-weeks then PM me your name and address and I will confirm.

*Canadian orders are going via simple oversized letter postage but should be there in about the same period

ALSO please remember to add your mailing address to the PayPal "message to seller" as sometimes PayPal does not forward it.
If we had to contact you for your mailing address it will add additional shipping time obviously

I received mine yesterday but haven't had a chance to install yet.

Just for reference for others, the shipped out dates on my package were written on label as 9/4 and postmarked 9/13, so expect a little wait based on mail services.

I just looked into this.
FYI the shipping label may be printed or filled out out same day (or within a day or two) of payment.
But they only go to the post office once a week as they live outside of the city.
So in any case it should be within 7 business days from date of payment as I have stated.
Unfortunately that's the best we can do at this time, Sorry...

No worries. Since the modified sensor is more prevention than repair, there should be no reason to hurry anyway.

Thanks again for going through the effort of making and distributing a fix.
