Update 2 - Tech informed technical support of the scenario leading to the CEL. Tech support sent him a new Coolant Temperature Control module, should have it back today or tomorrow. Will definitely have the chance to test if it is fixed as it is getting down to 8 degrees here this weekend.

Volt tech probably meant the K10 Coolant Heater Control Module aka Heater Coolant Heater since there is no Coolant Temperature Control module. I just had my defective K10 replaced earlier this week(last year) and the improved K10 thus far (knock on wood) seems to be doing a much better job of heating the cabin!;)

FWIW: Now, the newest part on my Volt is the K10 which was manufactured on 312th day of last year or 11/8/2013! Todd, the Volt tech who replaced the K10 electric heater, had the job completed and I was back on the road in less than 3Hrs...

Odd, I thought that was a 2013 MY issue, my Volt is a 2012 MY and the heater has worked flawlessly from the beginning. I believe the module they replaced actually controls the Battery Heat Pack.

K16 Battery Energy Control Module (BECM)

The battery energy control module (BECM) uses the hybrid/EV battery temperature sensors to determine the hybrid/EV battery pack temperature to control the battery cooling and heating operations.

Maybe he meant the K16 which is a module of the (A4) Hybrid/EV Battery Pack!?

Otherwise, there is also an Air Conditioning and Heater Module Assembly located in the dash but no Coolant Temperature Control module...

I suspect they are actually replacing the K10 Coolant Heater Control Module as it is a potential failure component of excessive loss of isolation. Hopefully they used the bulletin to complete an included work-sheet that documents various voltage levels at specific points of the high-voltage circuit as reported from various modules. Then based on those results, the offending component that represents the "leak" can be more accurately identified.
Hopefully they'll have if fixed up and back to you very soon.

Update 3- Got her back now, written invoice states the following.
"Found DTCs P1AF0, P1AF2, P1AF4, P1AF6, P1E1C, P1E22. Contacted TAC. Was told to clear DTCs and test drive to see which codes come back first in order to help isolate the actual concern causing all DTCs to set. Have been test driving vehicle. No codes set as of 56 miles. Tac contacted me and recommended replacement of the Coolant Heater Control Module and to follow PIC5943 for a revised part number to correct setting false DTCs. Performed repair as stated in PI. Bled coolant system. Cleared DTCs and test drove. CEL remained off. Case #71-1256591776"

Would appear he did no troubleshooting whatsoever, just cleared the codes, drove it for a bit, then replaced the module and drove it again. Guy put over 100 miles on the car with his test drives.
Will be bitter cold tonight, will see if everything is fine.

Update 4- Annnnnnddddd the little bugger is back! No Volt techs today and I'm tired of rentals so I have to wait till monday.

While I firmly believe a lot of the young mechanics these days are mostly incompetent......due in large part to a lack of proper training......I also KNOW that when you are dealing with complex electronic systems these days, sometimes there is no reasonable way to "troubleshoot" the problem except to use the built-in diagnostic systems. This might be one of those cases.

I think you should not criticize the mechanic or shop for extended test driving.
It at least shows that they are making a serious try........and are not lying to you.

This might be one of those cases.
My job for the last seven years has been to troubleshoot complex high power electronic systems with few to no "built-in" diagnostic systems. I have seen the best techs and the worst techs all at work. They are doing the rookie move of fumbling around replacing things until they get lucky and find the problem by pure chance.

I think you should not criticize the mechanic or shop for extended test driving.

A serious try would have been to listen to my information in the first place, when they called me on the 31st saying I could pick it up, they had done nothing more then reset the codes. The codes trip every single time within five miles when it is cold. All they have to do is drive to the gas station, shut the car down, get a coffee and b.s. with the cashier for five minutes, then go start the car back up, by the time they leave the parking lot the codes trip. They have put nearly 200 miles on my car with their "test drives"

You obviously know everything there is to know about the situation and have a PERFECT handle on what everybody
else should be doing and not doing.

I can't help but wonder why YOU have not fixed it yourself by now.
(OK, honestly NOT wondering that......but given your latest remarks, I do feel sorry for the service people that are having to deal with you.)

I apologize for not making my point clear, but don't feel bad for the service people. I discovered this weekend they sheered off the dipstick and covered it up with one of the engine control cable bundles.

Aye, they just did. Ordered it when they busted it, just neglected to tell me they did it.

Update 5- Tech support had the dealer replace the high voltage contactor and battery heater assembly. Got to see the battery out of the car for the first time, as well as an up close and personal look at the battery tunnel mod.

As of right now tech support is stumped, so if this doesn't fix the problem we are unsure as where they will try next.

Final update on this problem, after three weeks of testing in all different temperatures, the CEL is confirmed fixed. The High Voltage Contactor and Battery Heater module replacement finally caught the problem.
