key fob and tpms not working

I have a 2013 volt. My key fob has completely stopped working. I can replace the battery and it will sometimes work but drains the battery quickly. It sometimes works for an hour or two. I also have a tmps light on for passenger side font tire. It the warning message will come and go. the tire it self is fine.

I have read online that the receiver the tmps and fob are one in the same. I checked behind the rear view mirror and my volt is not equipped with receiver in this location. where else could it be located?

A bad receiver would not drain the fob battery, but a sticky/stuck button might. The TPMS sensor's have a battery, The battery can go bad and need replacement.

The battery can go bad and need replacement.
And by "replace the battery" it's meant "replace the TPMS sender". They're all a unit and largely interchangeable so long as you get the right operating frequency. (I don't remember which years are what frequency offhand but it can be found here with the search function.)

the other end of the valve stem inside the tire

if I understand the question

I have never tried opening up one to see the battery in the TPMS

No, it is behind/above the mirror. bout a 4"x5"x1" plastic box attached to the windshield.

ooops, Steve beat me to it. If there is nothing in the box, therein lies the problem... I can't imagine the fobs would work without it... Do you have the passive entry function?

That is a different system/box

OK, so the mounting bracket and TPMS/Key Fob receiver actually are there in your picture. Same as shown in post #9 and #10 above. The plug is shown plugged into the top edge of the receiver

Very confused at this point about your continued "no box" statements. Or are you saying the cover that goes over this is missing?

please show me what box is the tpms/key fob receiver
Shown in your picture as a white-ish box with a cable plugged in. Shown in post #10 as part #1

Yours does look shorter however.

Interestingly... my 2011 does have the module you posted a jpg of, which also matches the screen snip Steve and I provided.

one online gm parts giant indicates that part does not fit a 2013 volt, but yet another gm part direct indicates it does fit. I suspect there may have been a mid-year model change and the hardware changed. Check the part number on the lower right module of your photo.

the gm part giant has a "show similar parts that fit my vehicle" button which brings up a module that looks somewhat more similar to what is shown in your picture.
