door lock conundrum

I'm a very happy owner of a brand new 2012 Cyber Gray Volt. It had all of 7 miles on it when I took the first test drive. Ive been reading the owners manual voraciously, but can't seem to figure out my power locks. No matter what I do I can't keep the car from locking itself. I'm used to being able to unlock the car, open a door and then leave it to come in the house or something and it remains unlocked. This one locks itself when I step away or when I plug it in and then when I hit the lock button on the remote it takes two presses to make it lock. Im very confused. Is there a setting somewhere I haven't discovered? I've been through the Personalization menu many times and can't figure it out.

If the car locks itself when you walk away, have a look at the config menu option 'passive locking.' Mine doesn't do that, and I haven't decided if I'd want that behavior. Assuming its a 2012, though, you know that it'll unlock if you touch the button on the door handle before pulling the handle, right? If you're in the habit, getting into the locked car is just as quick and easy as an unlocked car...

You don't need to take your key out of your pocket, just touch the button on the doorhandle. As long as the key is within 3 feet, the doors will unlock.
If its a 2012, touching the driver side door will open only the driver door, touching any other door will open all doors.

What drove me nuts for the first 2 months was trying to unlock the car to pick up a passenger. The car doors lock once the vehicle is in motion, and until recently I thought the only way to unlock the doors was to put the vehicle in park. About a week ago I noticed that on the CONSOLE (note, not the inside of the driver door) are 2 buttons for locking and unlocking the doors (the buttons are in the same position as the drive mode and leaf buttons, but on the passenger side)..... I am pretty sure I smacked myself int he forehead...

If you press the button on the driver's door a second time all the other doors will also unlock.

On page 5-64 of your owner's manual, you will read about the passive door lock system:

Passive Door Lock
This allows passive locking to be
turned on or off and select what
type of feedback.
The available options are:
. Off
. On
. On with Active Horn Chirp

Can you let me know what manual this is in? I have a PDF with the title "2012 Chevrolet Volt Owner Manual". On page 5-64, my manual is talking about reprogramming your key and has the section title "Gate Operator and Canadian Programming". I guess I was reading the wrong manual. A link to your manual would be greatly appreciated.
