Thanks - I've read that thread but the install pertains to the GM kit. My question was particular to essentially making your own light from readily available angel eye LED's at a fraction of the price, as described in the link above.

I don't see why it wouldn't work, and it looks like a fun project. Although, I only paid around $160 for my GM light kit, so all this extra effort and collection of parts isn't as big of a benefit.

One thing to note, my '17 connection plug is different than the directions that came with my light. It took a little bit to make sure I got it right, but it still worked once I figured out which squares to plug into.

 

This is a bit off topic as this is the gen2 forum but I wonder if someone could try something similar but for the gen1?

 

This won't be a solution for my Bolt's DCFC Frankenport.

 

Is there step by step video on YouTube? Nice as I prefer more videos/hands on person.

 

When I built my Open EVSE (from scratch) I installed a bright LED in the center of the 5 pins of the charge handle - Drilled a hole and glued the LED in. It's powered by the EVSE and comes on when you push the lock button down
