I have backup camera on my 2012. However I have read that later cameras are a bit better. Also I could get an aftermarket unit?
Anyone upgraded their camera ? I am really looking for plug and play. But something that’s a bit better than what I have now
I know some people have gone to the dealer for them to install a new camera. But I prefer to just buy it and install if its not too expensive

Not just a bit better. The difference between the original and the warranty replacement is night and day. Is your car still under warranty? Are you so determined to do it yourself that you want to pay extra for the privilege?

I'll second that. I just had both my 2012 Volts cameras replaced under warranty based on info I read in this forum. HUGE step up. I can actually SEE SOMETHING at night now!

Still under warranty. Now that I have the TSB number, I will just print that out and take it to the dealer. At least then I have a leg to stand on. Last time I was there and complained, they said, its supposed to be that way, seeing that the car is White Diamond Tricoat and it will reflect light. Now the TSB specifically points to my car.

THE REARVIEW CAMERA HAS LOW CONTRAST (FUZZY, BLURRY) DISPLAY AND MAY BE CAUSED BY WHITE DIAMOND TRI COAT PAINT IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. MODEL 2011-2013 VOLT.

Ill have them replace the camera when I also have them do the rear lift gate struts

My 2013's backup camera blows compared to the one in my 2014 Silverado... but it's good enough in the day and I rarely drive at night so I haven't been motivated to whine about it at the dealer. But maybe I will. Just hate going to the dealer because, well, I have a job and I have to be at said job and it's not like dealers give loaners anymore. :(

I think that's the dealer's choice. Mine still gives loaners, just had one this week while my cars were getting the engine running recall done, and also had a loaner a month ago when I got the liftgate struts replaced.

FWIW, I got my camera upgraded when I took the White Diamond Volt in this week for the recall.
