Add Wi-Fi control and data to your "dumb" Level 2 EVSE

I have been using my Duosida EVSE plugged into a 240V outlet for over 2 years now. It has performed flawlessly. But I was always envious of those more expensive EVSE's with the Wi-Fi connection and remote operation. Now I have both with my humble Duosida. I found this Sinotimer WD688 controller which acts as a relay, voltmeter, ammeter, and wattmeter, plus it connects to my Wi-Fi so I can control it and access it from my iPhone. It works with the TuyaSmart app which is available for iOS and Android. I mounted this unit onto a standard DIN rail right next to my 240v receptacle and wired it up. One hot wire goes to L1, the other to N, and the neutral isn't connected--it just passes through.

The unit sells for less than $30 and the TuyaSmart app is free. Here's a link from AliExpress:

My install is kind of messy just like my garage but it works:

Above you can see the Volt is pulling 14.3 amps, which seems to be the limit for my 2015.

I can use the app on my phone to turn the EVSE on or off, as well as program it to turn on or off according to whatever schedule I set.

Here are a few screen shots from the app:

Great to have the EVSE monitored via wi-fi but what I need is something (or someone) to plug in the car when I forget. Thank goodness for the gas backup. (y)

Maybe one day we will all have one of these:
