I just got my brand new volt and someone rear ended me at a red light, i only have 450 miles on it!! my car "looks ok" but clearly has damage to the bumper etc, his car was totaled, the impact was tremendous so i am worried about other issues that can arise form this, i called my local dealer in Culver City CA and they said to take it their recommended body shop for an estimate, i have a problem with taking this outside the GM boudries, i would like a dealer to take the car and get an estimate, not a third party vendor, this is an insurance claim and his insurance WILL be paying for everything, i just want it done right and inspected by GM, anyone been through something like this? seems like most dealers dont have a body shop on site.......i want the frame and all the electrical components checked out properly, i am just not convinced a third party body shop are trained on volts and will screw this up!

Thanks

I would call your Volt advisor ASAP to see what they can do to help. Hopefully GM will send a field engineer out to make sure everything is repaired properly - I would imagine they don't want to be paying warranty claims down the road for damage caused in the accident.

Hope you are okay even though the Volt might not be!

Based on threads here, you are right to want your Volt repaired by a GM dealer. However, it seems like there are large metropolitan areas like LA where no dealer has a body shop. Where I live, they all do. I wonder why it's all or none.

If I were you, I'd use the Web to find a dealer with a body shop, even if it's far away.
I used these search terms on yahoo: chevrolet body shop california
I got a lot of hits - none in LA.

I believe that Win Chevrolet (formerly Cormier) in Carson, CA has its own body shop. They are right off the 405 near Wilmington Ave. I go by there often and I keep seeing ads on their big lighted billboard for body shop services.

We operate a body and paint shop specializing in Corvettes. I'm totally confident that we could take care of it. It's not rocket science, especially since it's hit in the rear so the main part of the power train shouldn't be affected.

I can tell that you're pretty committed to going with a dealer, and I wouldn't think of trying to talk you out of it. Most dealers have given up on running body shops because it's actually pretty hard to make money dealing with insurance companies.

What I don't understand is that almost every Chevy dealer in San Antonio has a full body shop and almost no Chevy dealers in LA have one. Are the insurance companies in LA staffed by the Sopranos?

Agreed...Depending on the valuation of his car...if his was totalled then you definitely want your unibody checked out and your battery complex...:(

Also...how is your neck doing?

Sorry for your loss. What kind of car was the other guy driving? It seems incredible his car could be totaled, but your Volt was in driveable condition. Could you post some pics of the damage?

Curious. We're you driving in Low? I've been doing that more recently, but it does worry me. I try to tap the brakes if someone is behind me just in case.

Your Volt adviser may be able to recommend a body shop in your area. Any decent body shop should be able to handle the repair. As long as they are a reputable shop, they should be able to inspect it for any serious frame damage.

Thanks for all the help, you guys rock!

I was stationary at a red light when this happened, i am going to talk with the advisor, that seems the best place to start, hopefully these pics upload....

Cheers!
Wow, if I've learned anything from the Volt accident pictures I've seen on here, it seems that the Volt is built like a tank! Hopefully your damage is just cosmetic.

I got rear-ended just before Christmas last year. It was while I was stopped on a freeway exit. It was a low impact (~10 mph?)...I was hit then he was rear-ended by the car behind him and then I was hit again. My damage looked similar to yours, although the guy that hit me didn't have nearly the damage your guy has. Anyway, I can almost guarantee that you have damage behind the bumper cover. I needed a new frame mount (?). It needed to be ordered after the fact and took a couple extra days. There was really no Volt stuff that needed special attention. I think the cost was about $1,300. The bumper cover came primed, so it needed to be painted.
