Any AC Delco parts supplier can get the EVLN2 battery within a day or two. Look at their site to find the nearest one to you, have them order one, and install it yourself. If you a have a basic socket set it takes about 20 minutes.

Thanks Steverino! And everyone too!

I did search 47P7YR in the forums since that is what is printed on the battery, and that is the only part number not in the excellent FAQ. May I suggest adding it so indexing will find it? I did not return to the forums until after I found the other part numbers, so my bad.

Fingers crossed on the fate of my car, but I am hopeful underlying issue is just low coolant and a battery that joined the choir eternal. :D

EVLN2 is the correct replacement part number from AC-Delco. GM owns AC-Delco, so it's the closest you'll get to the OEM battery.

Just a note that there are “other “ battery group sizes that fit well enough in a volt.

The battery in my Cobalt was a perfect fit in the Volt, even had the same vent hole except for height,

I just put a plastic “angle” I had laying around as a spacer under the strap and tightened everything up.

Works perfect and was much much cheaper on sale.

So folks, you can fit other batteries with a very small effort.

Usually all the AC Delco s are the same price but occasionally one size is much cheaper and if it is a perfect fit with the vent hole why not?
Is it an AGM battery? If not, you’re taking a risk.

Non-AGM batteries can release gasses. That's bad within the cabin of a vehicle for passenger safety reasons. So, I would confirm that any battery used in the Volt is AGM.

AGM batteries can technically create/vent hydrogen if they are overcharged. GM includes the vent host in case of that very unlikely event. Flooded lead-acid batteries produce hydrogen more regularly. Given its flammability, I wouldn't rely on that vent hose. I also wouldn't want to be sitting in the back seat during a rear collision when acid gets sprayed from a punctured non-AGM battery.

It's all a long-shot, and it's your call. I consider the extra cost of the correct EVLN2 battery to be trivial enough that I don't mess around with sub-par alternatives.

How does it work in the Cobalt then?
The only thing separating the passenger from the sealed battery is a thin piece of particle board and a thin piece of carpet
When transporting longer objects the rear passenger can reach out and touch the battery if he wants.

If it’s OK in one car why is it not OK in another?
As you say, normally it’s in the trunk of the Cobalt, providing some separation. It’s your call if you want to risk it. They didn’t pay extra for an AGM battery in new Volts just for kicks.
