Texas : to be very impressed, just check out an Abrams tank moving all that mass with it’s turbine.

Yeah, until some mujahedin blows it up with an ANFO bomb. I saw a video from Iraq if an M1 being blown into the air by an "IED" and landing on its back. They may have been great for stopping the Russkies from coming through the Fulda Gap, but they're not much use in these troubled days of "asymmetric warfare".

Seems like a good idea if it saved space .. weight and burned regular gas.

But I wonder about how long they last with a high compression ratio and turning off and on many times...

Always good to see the effort to improve... I wish them luck and hope these people are allowed to reap the benefits (profits) of their design ...

DonC ,

Well at the rate the Chinese increase the demand and the result for their own costs, those 20 million will be taking the train.

Plus, Mitt has been excessively pushing for coal energy so consistently, it is apparent that coal interests run his show.

Also, it takes as much energy to get crude out of tar sands as is in those tar sands, which in itself, is a boondoggle. Why don't those foreign energy interests keep their energy for local use, and not use even more energy to pump it clear across America with even more wasteful pumping costs which include heating that sludgy stuff all the way to the Texas coast? Coal and Tar...... not exactly twenty first century thinking. Completely absurd obviously.

Noel Park : Somehow the name EeStor is echoing in my poor brain.

Looks like they gave an update about a month ago. Still no working prototype that I see.

Damn, what a confusing world. Now I can't decide whether to buy stock in LiquidPiston or EeStor! Or is it Zenn? I just dunno.

OT: Had a really weird data point today from my Chevy OnStar data collection. It has 2,876,305 daily miles for yesterday, which is nuts. That 10x the typical previous values. I'm not sure what GM is doing w/the data. The ticker on the GM website just keeps running so no one sees this weirdness, but by collecting the daily values, it clearly shows up. Either way, we are up to 136.4 million miles total, and almost 5 million gallons of fuel saved.

I don't think so. The data started getting goofy at the beginning of August. Instead of posting real-time values which moved all over, all of a sudden the daily percentages & values were always the same. You can see this in the flat lines on the daily charts. I don't know why they would want to mask daily usage. Maybe they consider it competitive information they don't want Ford/Toyo/Nissan to have?

EDIT: I posted this late yesterday, but here it is again. I don't think OnStar blocking VoltStats has anything do do with network problems.

From Voltstats.net Oct 16th:
Still no access to the API – I’ve had a meeting with Onstar, but at this point it seems like the issue is more legal than technical. I still have no doubts that service will be restored, but the timeframe might be longer than I had hoped this weekend.
From Voltstats.net Oct 19th:
Still no updates from GM/Onstar. As of right now I really have no idea when we can expect service to be restored.

Looks like the detroit auto show in january 13th will be a biggy for GM.

BOTH the new C7 Corvette AND the ELR will be debuing!!

Also

GM has anounced that the ELR will have the same battery as the Volt but that it "will be used differently"

Perhaps a larger buffer as I proposed here:http://gm-volt.com/2012/10/11/voltec-power-train-improvements-for-the-new-cadillac-elr/

I do believe that our humorous friend Static will be all wrong about his prediction that the ELR will have a turbo.

and GM will show its new crossed flag emblem for the Corvette at the show:

I can't wait!!!

I will be there. I don't know of any other major EV news other than the ELR. I'm sure they will have some version of electric ally there again, but I don't want to see the same stuff as last year. Also if GM plans to start selling the ELR in November, shouldn't we have pricing soon?

Roy_H ,

The main guy behind the Wave Disk Engine project expected a car-sized 25kW engine by the end of 2011 because they were already so far along in refining the design. It's the end of 2012 and no engine. It does 'seem' really great. But then lots and lots of things that don't exist seem great.

AZryan ,

I think you are wrong there. They finished the engine and that concluded their funding. The design was then intended to be picked up by industry to evaluate and possibly bring to production. The school has no interest in trying to commercialize it.
