Driving on the Hwy this morning and saw a used Volt on a car lot. Been lurking on this forum since 2012 and love the Volt but just could never part with the money. Good salesman, right day or whatever I now own a 2014 Premium Volt, Leather and a bunch of other things I won't remember until the shock wears off.

I'm sure I'll have more questions but for a start, how many charging cords come with the car. Is the 110 and 220 handled by one charging cord or are there two. There is only one in the car.

Yikes

Congrats, what took you so long? I only lurked until the great 2013 price drop

BTW, here are the answers to all of your questions

-Premium, gas & model (G1)
-Don't freeze, use heat
-If you had to ask, get an electrician
-It does that
-Ally isn't your ally
-Power off, fixes itself
-ClipperCreek, VoltShelf, VoltScreen, antibuffeting kit, PlastiDip, GM Card
-$7.5K off tax owed
-L2 EVSE is liberating
-Don't provoke Elemental or DogMom
-81.8 mi - Ari C
-It drops when cold
-Slow down, it goes farther
-Don't push twice while moving
-Bolt:don't know yet

Sage advice to new owners. To that I will add "set COLD tire pressure to 40 PSI" It will fluctuate UP and DOWN as the GM TPMS' are sensitive. And make sure there isn't ANYTHING else on the plug you intend to charge with.

Assume you have some warranty left? Use this time to go over the vehicle with a fine tooth comb and get your dealer to fix what you find.

And yes a 240V EVSE is liberating.

I don't know about 2014, but there was a run of "bad glue" in some of the late 2013 tail-lights (driver side) and the housings separated a hair allowing water to collect.

The check is easy,
Take it to a car wash, hose it down good around the tail lights.
You'll get some "mist fog" in them because they are vented, but it should dry up pretty quickly (within an hour or three).

If water does collect in the tail lights and stays there for a day or more get them replaced while they are still under warranty because they are EXPENSIVE.

See here for details: Tail Light Water

Check for a cabin air filter (see this thread)
if you don't have one, put one in. You won't regret it.

Then... just enjoy! You made a heck of a purchase.

Mountain Mode does not increase your EV range. It's for... Climbing mountain grades!

L does not equal Low as in normal automatic cars. It means Maximum Regeneration. Yes, you can drive in L all the time up to the 101mph limiter.

Sport does not make the car faster, it makes it FEEL faster.

Hold is handy when you need to travel at high speeds past your EV range. Get up to speed, switch to HOLD. Gas does better than Electricity at speeds over 60 mph. Electricity smokes gas in stop and go, and lower speeds.

Are you implying that changes from Normal to Sport to Mountain or Hold MODES should not be done while in Drive or L?
He's saying don't press the ignition button twice while moving (because the car will shut off). Has happened to many people who were trying to switch to sport mode but pressed the wrong button... horrible "human factors" design choice by GM to have them so close together, glad they moved them apart on gen2.

I got teased a lot for doing this modification, but interestingly neither my wife nor myself has accidentally hit the power button since it was done.

You can Convert the Charger that comes with the Car to L1/L2 for about $30 if you're handy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2-_pfCtPu4

Good Choice I love my Volt!
As far as I know, this is only true for the newer Gen 2 Volts! The OP should not do this with the 2014 Volt charger. If I'm mistaken (there have been a lot of EVSE changes throughout both generations) please correct me.

When your thumb is on the power button, the blue light vanishes from the corner of your eye. When it's on the mode button, it doesn't. They don't even FEEL like the same button; there's no lip around the bottom of the mode button. It takes four seconds for it to kick in anyway, take a second between presses to make sure the right DIC display is up before giving the second push.

That's true. The 2014 Volt's EVSE can NOT be converted with a simple $30 adapter.

Congratulations and welcome aboard, Restlessone! :)

There is a way to use the Gen 2 evse on dual voltage with an adapter, and there is a different procedure to rewire the 2013 evse for dual voltage, but I don't think you can do much with the other years-- except gut the electronics and replace them with different.

It's an actual hardware modification that works for late 2013 and 2014 EVSEs. Chris is/was doing some for people. No orange-cord ones -- those would need a different power board to adapt. And honestly, by the time you're doing that, you're only saving about $150 over getting a ClipperCreek LCS-20 or a Duosida anyway, and for THAT little money, being able to stow the 120v as a spare and have the L2 live in the garage mounted to the wall seem like a pretty good deal.

I just glance down at what I'm pressing! Like I do with every other button in this car and all others. Never had a problem ;)
