Would you use a third patty adaptive cruise control module?

I would NEVER consider a third party drive control system on a vehicle. What's the first question in an accident? What's the cause? Unauthorized vehicle modification? Huge personal liability!

Even if I had a huge interest in those sorts of driver aids, I'd never add a 3rd party device to something I trust my life to. GM spends metric ass tons of dollars testing and certifying the equipment and if something goes wrong they have the bank to make it right.

Not going to trust my life to a rinky-dink firm that may be run out of some guy's garage. Not trying to diss anyone that may want to explore those options on their own, but when you are talking about something that has control over almost 2 tons of metal, I can't take any chances.

Agree with above that 3rd party mods to the control system are a no go. Another thing to worry about is how the mods affect car warranty.

The only mod I'd probably support would be a battery back chemistry upgrade within existing foot print and that's if the work is guaranteed for at least 5 years. I liken the battery replacement to a transmission replacement (not rebuilt). The warranty would have to be similar in coverage to the Volt's battery warranty, but shorter period of coverage.

And while I'm dreaming, I'd pay $3500 for that upgrade.

All of the features listed are available as options from GM. If I didn't want it from them, why would I want it aftermarket?
Some people have a change of heart, some people might have wanted it but thought paying the asking price was too much. Kinda similar to those who might want to upgrade their wheels on the volt instead of paying the $1,700 for what's literally nothing more than some black paint and a slightly different design wheel wise.

I'll add to my comment (#2), that I do desire ACC. It's on the list for my Next car.

The sort of ads I see for these anti-collision systems are troubling to me. People having that much difficulty paying attention to driving, shouldn't.

Maybe there's a need for a system that doesn't allow the person to go anywhere if not paying a sufficient level of attention.

It was not available on the 2016 but if it had been I would have had it for sure.

Would not consider adding it aftermarket unless it was something that could be retrofitted by GM and it was clear from the first time this question was asked more than a year ago that it would not be possible. No interest in a 3rd party system for all of the reasons mentioned above.

Once you have ACC you will not go back to regular cruise control, and I think ACC make cruise control more useful, my other 3 car only has cruise control I never use them, but 2016 Volt has ACC I use every day. BTW I hope some one can open a other poll for add on auto pilot, I think a lot of people interest to have with Volt.

I just purchased a 2017 Volt, but didn't realize that the ACC is an additional option. I have driver safety packages 1 & 2 already installed. Do you think a dealer can add the ACC separately?
They won't, but why trust folks on the internet? Take two minutes out of your day to give your dealer a call to verify...
