The Gen II Volt's wireless phone charging is probably its weakest feature. It is a question of whether the iPhone 8, forget about attempting to charge the iPhone 8 Plus, will even fit in the charging slot. The center armrest will probably need to be kept open when charging.

As the armrest charger is Qi compatible, it should work BUT given how I could never get it to work with every single phone I've used (Nexus 4/5 and Samsung S7e which both use Qi, while the dealership said the charger is fine) I really doubt it'll be reliable

Maybe the new Apple Watch will be able to be charged in the Volt's wireless charger.

The 8 and X should be fine. The 8 plus may not fit if it's in a case. I find my phone charges best if I take it out of the case (won't fit otherwise) and put it in upside down.

I think there's a euphemism in there somewhere :)

Got my 8 yesterday...tried the wireless charging today, not good...the indicator came on for 2-3 sec and went off...had to take the case off to even get that far...tried all 4 directions (rear facing up, rear facing down, front facing up, front facing down)...eh, doesnt really phase me that much since I usually use carplay via USB, but would be nice if it worked for passengers with 8s (like my wife)

I tried a brand new Iphone 8 yesterday and couldn't get any connection or charge. Tried in both directions, as well as with and without the rubber sleeve from the charging slot. Does anyone have photo of what the dash looks like when a proper charging connection is made?

I use the Bezalel Latitude wireless charging case for my iPhone 6s. It works great and is a dual charger for Qi and Powermat. If you can't get the 8 to work you can always get the case that will work. Just an FYI.

Talked to GM chat today. They confirmed that the iPhone 8 is not compatible and
"Currently, there are no resolution for this concern. GM is not at fault. We offer our technical requirements to all phone manufacturers, and hope that they adhere to them. However, we in no way have control over this. I apologize for the inconvenience."

I tried to argue that they stated Qi compatibility, which should work with any phone using Qi standard, but they said I have to look at their compatibility sheet. They said local GM rep would contact me. Not like that is going to help...

Apple said today that "all Qi-certified products support the iPhone" but I don't know if the Volt's is considered Qi-certified or not. Will the Qi charger in the 2016 Volt work with the iPhone 8 and X?
Do Qi wireless phones work now? Originally I purchased a wireless Qi charging case for my iPhone, but it did not work. I had to purchase a case that was Qi and Powermat format capable which works great. I always thought the Powermat was what enabled it to work. ?? I have an iPhone 6s and the armrest lid closes fully.

I just bought a separate charger and put it on the armrest. Charger is plugged into the USB port behind the armrest (via cigarette lighter port).

I bought this one, and it works great. 4.2 star rating from 2,800+ reviews. It was $12.99, but price just went up to $15.99, probably due to the demand increase from the iPhone X release.

FWIW...I bought a Qi coil that plugs into the bottom of an iPhone 6, 6s or 7 and slips between the iPhone and any case (i have a Caselogic hard shell & rubber type case. The case isn't too thin either. Works just fine in my 2017 Volt and charges up pretty fast.

I just received my iPhone X. It fits w/o case into rubber sleeve, and with case if you remove the rubber sleeve. Unfortunately regardless of confirmation there is not charging no matter sleeve, no sleeve case or without case. I do not find this acceptable as this one one of main reason for update package.
