Hello All,
Ive been scrubbing throigh the awesome link given in another thread http://www.autocats.ws/manual/chevrolet/
But to be honest its a large amount of data to sift through so I was wondering if anyone has added an aftermarket backup camera.
I havent purchased one yet but I'm looking at going with the rearview mirror replacement type like the one seen here. http://www.carid.com/2013-chevy-volt-back-up-cameras-sensors/escort-smartsite-rearview-camera-system-3903483.html
They are state you need to connect to a reversing signal for it to turn on the screen. Is this accomplished by simply attaching to the reverse light for powr/signal or is done at some point within the car?

I havent been able to find a reverse signal line from those schematics, usually there is one that goes to the radio, the manual is for a euro volt, so the radio connectors and wiring might be different. However connecting it to the reverse light should do the job correctly, now if you are connecting the camera to the radio thats a whole different story.

Can't you just use the reverse light as a 12V reference? It only comes on when the vehicle is in reverse.
It can also come on when you use the remote to unlock the car when it's dark enough and I think it can also come on during pre-conditioning.

So long as the camera requires 12 volt switched power to make use of the 12V signal, then it shouldn't be a problem.

I installed this camera on my Volt. Installation went pretty well. The dealership did the programming and best buy can install camera's for $75. I did replace my backup light with a LED to help with night backup as the stop light does not give off enough light to give clarity. One thing to remember on any future software upgrades after the install is to tell the dealership to make sure they include the backup camera. I had a software update installed a few weeks ago and they forgot about the camera since it was not stock. No big issue but it will save you some time making a return visit.

The 12V power to the backup lamp is provided by the Body Control module. If I were advising this installation I would probably recomend accessing a particular inline connector (X275) within the backup lamp circuit 1324 that is accesible under the RH side of the instrument panel. From what I can tell I cannot see any issue with simply conecting this input circuit to supply the reverse signal. Essentially ANYWHERE in circuit 1324 should be fine.
If you purhchase the kit feel free to PM me and I would attempt to get you the exact location and pinouts.
