The automaker plans to launch in 2020 a battery-electric vehicle with a 300-mile-plus range. The vehicle is "Mustang-inspired." Farley has said several times that essentially means it'll be a utility vehicle that goes fast.

Ford teased again with a tweet that was timed to coincide with the Tesla Model Y reveal. Seems like it will be a Mustang CUV BEV with an emphasis on performance. Another "wait until 2020" announcement.

"Electrification is a really important part of our future," Hinrichs told CNBC, and the automaker has announced plans to invest about $11 billion in battery-based propulsion. Part of that will go to the creation of a new engineering complex in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood that will also serve as headquarters for its autonomous vehicle efforts.

If Ford and others really get going on this, it will be a nice alternative to the (IMO) bland virtually identical styling of every Tesla so far.

I think the big reveal for next months for sale model is a thing of the past. It has become, once the decision is made to produce, it's announced and that means production time is two years away. Another thing to blame Elon for.
