"Warcharging" and "commando" sockets. I'd never heard these terms before this week so I'm posting this in case others were wondering.

So apparently "Warcharging" is the practice of making brief stops at multiple Lev 2 chargers in an attempt to get someplace in a timely fashion.

And a "commando" socket is a reference to plain old 16 AMP sockets that are available/accessible but which might or might not be authorized for public use.

I can't see how hitting multiple chargers briefly would get you over a said distance any faster than waiting for a good charge and just moving on.

(once again, at this juncture I'm sure glad I have a Volt, not a pure EV)

Of course the pros/cons, morality, safety, et-al of using "commando" sockets has been discussed many times in other threads.

Forgot to say, the people discussing this did recommend that if you were going to use "commando" outlets that you should carry a plug tester in your car so that you could, at minimum, be sure the plug was wired correctly.

If the plug is not wired correctly, I expect the EVSE would not allow you to charge.

So, I'm guessing that 'going commando' has nothing to do with this thread.

My Gen2 charger is permanently wired into my house on 220V... I've never charged anywhere but home, even with my 70+ mile commute for work.

I wouldn't be so inclined to leave the EVSE sitting outside some random public place connected to a random untested socket knowing the whole thing could get stolen. why risk an EVSE costing a few hundred for 10 cents worth of electricity?

Even if i had secured charging at work on my own EVSE buying one for 300 dollars, the break even time is 2+ years. (8 hours of level 1 charging saves me 64 cents worth of juice)
