Hi Everyone, I'm in the final stages of the VW TDi buy back and have just purchased a new 2017 Volt. This is the only car that exceeds in economy and the performance I was used to with the TDi. I've had it two days now and really love it. I'm looking forward to the knowledge and experiences of the Volt owners on the this forum.

Too bad it took a scandal and a huge payout to see the light. but we're glad you finally made it here. The volt is America's best kept automotive secret. Except if I had a do-over, I would have gotten a heavily discounted ELR in 2015. Plus I'm at a quandary not knowing what to get next (don't worry, I usually shop for a decade before pulling the trigger)

Welcome aboard, I see your from Arizona so you won't be faced with the annual "my battery is dying" syndrome as winter sets in in northern states. If course you have heat to deal with, given the two extremes the Volt handles HEAT more efficiently.

What are your charging options for home and work? Strongly suggest a Clipper Creek Level II EVSE.

And consider joining VoltStats.net.

Congrats!! Welcome. You'll find that there are quite a few former TDI owners here. My TDI was an '03, which I had for around six years. The Volt is a very smart car, and while there are things you can do to change and possibly improve your experience or efficiency, the most important thing to realize now is that GM covered pretty much everything - the car will protect itself from most forms of user error, and take you where you need to go efficiently and with little drama with no adjustments.

One of the guys I work with has a TDI wagon which is in the buy back program. I believe he is getting somewhere around $21,000. At one time the TDI Wagon, new model, was on our short list. Good thing we didn't buy one...

Welcome to the group from another soon-to-be-former VW TDI owner! (Mine's a 2015 Golf. I've gotten and returned my offer letter, but so far I have no appointment.) I bought my Volt early because of a Rhode Island incentive program that was running out of money -- but they added more funds, so I could have waited. Oh, well. At least that means I've been driving on electricity, not an over-polluting diesel, for the past three months. I've taken my VW out a few times just to be sure it still starts and runs properly, and I've noted how bad the vibrations are compared to the Volt -- and the 2015 Golf TDI is a pretty smooth car, by ICE standards.

I liked it a lot, back in the day. These days when I poke my head in I seem to see a whole lot of greed about how one can best exploit the VW buyback and folks that don't care how much of a mess the car makes. :(
I'm with you there. As much as I loved mine for the 20 years I drove them, I think diesel's day has come and gone. Apparently so does TDIClub - it's not an enthusiast's site any more.

Welcome-just received my (ordered)2017 VOLT LT + Comfort Pkg. on 11/02/16 (same day CUBS won World Series).Pleased-well engineered, quiet, efficient.Wish I had one more battery bank since Volt refill a bit taxing on my PV/Batteries,though I thought there was enough storage.Impractical to add batteries now but next installation in a few years will be more capable.HOLD & LOW "gear" both function works well and full electric charge now exceeds 80 electrical miles since we try to drive efficiently.Enjoy your car!

Welcome to the "Volt drivers who are former TDI owners" club! I'm a recent member, having purchased a lightly used 2014 Volt. My 2011 TDI Sportwagen is parked and awaiting my buyback appointment on Dec 27th. I'm getting ~$21,000 for it which is only a few thousand less than I paid for it new. I considered a new Volt but I promised myself that if I did the buyback I wouldn't spend more than the buyback amount on a replacement. The Volt was a little over $17,000 all in so I kept my promise and will bank over $4,000 once VW gives me a check. Gotta love that!

I've been a member of Fred's going on 11 years now and lurked a few before that. My problem wasn't with diesels, it was with VWs. ;)

I've been driving VW diesels since they were introduced. The Beetle was the most fun for sure and had a Jetta that I ran B100 home brew for a decade with no problems. They really screwed up and I won't be back anytime soon. I have 500 miles on the Volt now and I really like it. We ran it on some twisties out to Tortilla Flats today in L and Mountain mode it did great!

Yep nice & warm here, should do fine. I'm going with the Siemens VersaCharge since it will plug into my existing power in the shop. I won't be using it for work my wife will be the primary drive. I ride my Indian MC as primary transportation. I took a look at VoltStats and will get on that site too. Thanks
