It should but it has been difficult, according to some Volt owners, to get GM to honor the California Air Resources Board (CARB) terms of the extended battery warranty.

 

Generally speaking, the VIN has a character that identifies it as being CARB compliant and thus having the longer battery warranty. I'm not sure how the state in which a claim (or current owner's residence) may impact that. To clarify, living in a non-carb compliant state vs. living in a carb compliant state, but travelling temporarily to a non-compliant state and requesting coverage. If it's still within the federal compliant warranty period of 8/100K, there should be little or no question on coverage.

 

I looked into this before buying mine, and read somewhere that it goes by the state the vehicle is currently registered in. I was going to seek out a CA car if it meant I'd get a longer battery warranty, but since it didn't there was no point in worrying about it, so I just bought a local FL car.

We just added a used 2014 to our garage next to our original 2013 that was purchased new. The 2014 was purchased and first used in California. It still has only 32,050 miles on it now after a week of driving it around for things like new tires, tinted windows and the Propulsion Recall to be installed.

Our warranty tracker in OnStar lists these status. Whether that'll change when I need service here in Texas, I don't know.

Thank you so very much for posting this! It seems the Voltec warranty for it was 8 years 100k miles or am I reading that wrong?
