Wondering what that salvaged Li-ion battery section is actually wired into. Have you actually hooked up to the HV battery pack on that Gen1?

There are 96 cell groups in the hybrid battery assembly. These cell groups are electrically connected in series. The battery cell groups are joined to form three sections. Are these additional sections connected in series with the existing HV battery?

The Battery Energy Control Module monitors the voltage of the 96 battery cell groups through four Hybrid Battery Interface Control Modules and determines when a fault condition is present. The Hybrid Powertrain Control Module 2 is the host controller for DTC information. Could these 'extra' batteries even be monitored for faults?

Appears not to be very safe since the HV would be exposed in the hatch area and there also would be no liquid cooling.

I'm afraid it is not as simple as just wiring more HV batteries in series otherwise other folks would be accomplishing this.

Connecting the EL-50332 Hybrid/EV Battery Service Tool

Battery Cell Balancing

The EL-50332 Hybrid/EV Battery Service Tool is used to match the voltage level of a replacement battery section to the existing battery sections following a service event. The tool charges or discharges the replacement section, as required, based on measured cell group voltage data.

The EL-50332 tool requires feedback from the battery energy control module during the balancing process. Communication is through the A4 Hybrid/EV Battery Pack X357 and X358 connectors and a low voltage interface harness provided with the EL-50332 tool. The charging and discharging is performed by direct connection to the replacement battery section positive and negative terminals.

You would need the EL-50332 Hybrid/EV Battery Service Tool lined above in order to perform the proper cell balancing procedure for these extra battery sections.

Code:
Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Capacity Learn

The Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Capacity Learn procedure must be completed when the following components are replaced:
• Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module 2
• Hybrid/EV Battery Energy Control Module
• Hybrid/EV Battery Interface Control Module
• Hybrid/EV Battery Pack
The Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module 2 Capacity Learn procedure can be completed with a scan tool using the following steps:
1. Install the scan tool to the data link connector.
2. Ignition ON, engine OFF.
3. Select Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Capacity Reset in the Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module 2 Control Functions list
4. Follow the scan tool directions to complete the procedure.
5. Select Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Capacity Learn in the Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module 2 Control Functions list
6. Follow the scan tool directions to complete the procedure.
7. Clear any DTCs that may be set.
So even if these battery sections are wired correctly and then balanced, you would still need to perform the Battery Pack Capacity Learn procedure before the Gen1 could recognize the increased battery capacity if it even could at all....

fascinating captain, how did you connect the coolant system to this? and once you added the 400 lbs to the hatch area, does that mean that you paying attention to the 750 lb total payload limit? leaving 350 lbs for you and your passengers and stuff?
oh one last question, if some clown swerves into your lane while he's texting, (ive seen this), and you are each driving 30 mph, and hits you head on, where is that 400 lb battery pack going to go?

We bored a few holes and connected to the standard cooling system. The battery is reliably fastened to the body, no worries, replacement springs was performed too. But BMS 2nd battery system works without connecting to the control unit(the control unit has a single(4 total, 3 of them are used) interface CAN untapped and we are studying the possibility of using).

Quite a mod!

Have you thought of a way to increase charging speed?

Does the car actually drive 130 km yet? I can't tell if the problem is with the displays only, or both the displays and the actual driving range. This is a very interesting mod.

added another volt battery from a distance and now electricity has increased to 130-140 km
Post a walk through of how you did it.

to enhance the suspension set other shock absorbers and springs.
battery has a cooling and heating

the battery is well secured to the body

What is cost and was software update required?

What kind of cost was involved for adding extra battery? Was a software update required in order for car to recognize additional range?
