Volt takes 15 hours to charge??

IMO the 8A default has everything to do with legal liability and nothing to do with engineering. I'm sure the engineers fought this one hard. It's clearly hurts the end user experience with the car.

An easy fix would to have a screen come up before changing to the 12A setting that would show a disclaimer (like with GPS). This screen would come up maybe once per month or once a year but after you accept the terms it would keep the 12A setting for that specified period of time.

I'm very happy that I installed a 240V charger at my home (thank you DOE). If you plan on owning the Volt for a while and think that you're next car will be an EREV or EV...then go ahead and get a 240V charger installed. There probably is no financial payback for most people, though the added convenience is worth it for many.
