I have a 2013 and a 2014 Volt and on both of them I want to do the following:

#1 - Not be forced into the default of XM/Sirius radio. I don't subscribe to XM radio and every time I unplug my iPhone boom back to advertisements trying to get me to buy XM radio. My car should NOT be a forced advertisement for the XM radio platform. I want this OFF, gone forever and to never return.

#2 - Be able to use the navigation system with the radio OFF. I'm very frustrated by being forced to turn on music to pull up a map. This is beyond stupid.

#3 - Be able to input an address while the car is moving. Seriously, there is a person sitting next to me. She's a "passenger" and would like to input the address while I'm driving.

#4 - My 2014 System likes to hang and reboot at random times. All buttons on the dash and all functions are hung for a good 10-15 minutes then the system will reboot. Is there an update I can download somewhere and fix this?

I'm coming from having owned BMW's and the wealth of modifications and ability to change everything yourself was fantastic on the BMW Nav system. I have a USB/Fibre converter to hook into the BMW "ibus" and an application I could run on a laptop and I could change any setting I pleased within the car. Things like #3 above could easily be changed. Does the same exist for the Volt?

Lastly, I tried using the forum search to search for answers to the above. However every time I tried to search I was presented with being forced to watch a McDonald's commercial. As you can tell from #1 above I'm not into being force fed commercials. So sorry the search feature on this forum is unusable. Anybody else put off as badly as I am about that?

#1 Have you tried making sure the last radio selection before connecting your iphone was FM or AM? I only ask because usually when the current source selected is removed it usually goes back to the previously selected source.

#2 don't think thats possible, but I agree it's dumb that you have to have all or nothing.

#3 Supposedly you can do all of that via voice by hitting the button on the steering wheel to activate the voice command lady. Your infotainment manual or saying "help" can give you more commands but I know you say "navigate" and you can enter a directed address, intersection, etc.

#4 I have a '13 which I notice isn't a problem for you either, so looks like it may just be an issue with the '14 system.

I don't have any answers, but you might try posting this in the main gen 1 forum, instead of this out of the way Accessories and Mods forum - not very many people look here regularly.

RE: #4, there is a dealer-applied software update that eliminated that problem on our '14. YMMV.

We, too, came from a BMW to the Volt a few years ago. We loved driving it, and some of the features were miles ahead of the Volt, but our out-of-warranty 330xi was at the dealer as much as it was in the garage. Each dealer visit was usually hundreds of dollars. The Volt? It now has 50k+, been out of warranty for 13 months, and it's had no out of pocket expenses. Again, YMMV, but we prefer the low operating cost and easy ownership of the Volt.
