This sure looks like the best thing going to me. When my 2014 Volt dies (fingers crossed that it's not soon), this may be the next car in my garage.

BTW, interesting to read how many miles Gen 1 Volt drivers are getting on pure battery. I got my 2014 as a CPO in 2017 and was getting about 35 miles electric on it back then. Down to about 33 now in 2022, so no big loss, but I'm amazed people have been getting over 40 miles of range!

I'm sure at least some of it is variation in driving conditions. In nice weather, it's easy for me to roll up 40 miles on a charge with light traffic and 35 MPH speed limits, but put it on the highway at 70 and low 30s is all it'll clock before the engine starts. You never know what someone else is actually doing to get those ranges.

Gen 1 Volt, but built today. Anyone wondering what parts of the battery can be replaced after warranty? Cell? Module? Section? Or does the whole thing need to be replaced?
Given the reliability and ubiquity of the Prius, I don't see this as a major issue. Plus, the car will drive okay with a weak or dead battery. When the time comes, the cost of replacement is not horrific.

The fact that it looks a lot better and is more powerful, yet it gets 58 combined MPG is a great selling point. And it will seat 5 persons plus there is an AWD version. If they have improved the handling, this could be the first Prius that's actually fun to drive. That would make it a winner. I love our Volt, but I can see how with AWD and much better cabin heating, it could end up being a very popular car in northern climates and areas with poor charging infrastructure.

Toyota's better parts supply and trained mechanic network is also a major difference from the Volt.

We got about 42 miles summer range and 27 miles winter range on our 2013 Volt.
