I did a day trip to Chicago today. Something I noticed on the 3 hour drive was an odd Detent/notchy feel in the steering inputs while Driving with the cruise set at 72 on I-90. The steering input feel had a weird breakout force feel too it. It was not what I would call smooth by any means. The input was one of resistance followed by quick oversteer in either direction. I was wondering if this is just the normal feel of the electric steering? The electric steering in my gen 2 prius has a smooth feel to the inputs. The volt does not.

Campaign #14232: Special Coverage Adjustment - Power Steering Stick-Slip
2011-2014 Chevrolet Volt

Condition:
Some 2011-2014 MY Chevrolet Volt may have increased friction in the steering system. This could cause the steering wheel to stick in the straight-ahead position after driving long distances on a straight highway.
The steering wheel can be turned but it may require increased effort.

Vehicles Involved:
All involved vehicles are identified by Vehicle Identification Number on the Applicable Warranties section in GM Global Warranty Management system.

Service Procedure:
2010-2012 Vehicles: Replace the Steering Gear Assembly
2013-2014 Vehicles: Reprogram the Power Steering Control Module.
Note: * When performing the reprogram on 2013-2014 vehicles, always ensure that the programming description addresses the stick-slip condition.

Thanks for the info.

Ours is a 13, so reprogramming should do the trick. It’s out of warranty but since there is a campaign on the issue, they might discount it a little.

What does Special coverage adjustment mean?

Actually, I just looked at my warranty info and discovered the special coverage campaign 14232 is in effect. The mileage limit is 150,000. Woo hoo.

My 2013 did this early on and the reprogram did not fix it. Putting in a new steering rack did fix it. I received a courtesy 10 year 100,000 mile warranty from GM in the mail for the steering rack. Seems they know of this issue and may find a dealer that would cover it.

I think that just means they are extending the warranty period for this one specific issue rather than cutting you off at the usual 3years/36K.

I had the reprogram done on my 2013 and it worked for me. Prefect ever since.

Yup, figured that out. 10 years or 150k mi.

I also found that there was another Special coverage warranty pertaining to breaking the accelerator pedal arm. That goes one for 10 yr or 120k mi

I wondered if that has happened too anyone on here?

I had this same issue on my '13--fortunately the dealer fix got rid of it with no issues and it never came back.
