GM doesn't necessarily operate like that. If you don't have a problem, you will not get an update unless it is a recall. I am sure for Gen 2 there are several updates and some have been discussed on the forum usually in the form of a PIC #.
In the past, if you called a Volt advisor they could check for required software updates and other recalls specific to your VIN. The Volt advisor program has since been terminated. I am not sure if regular Chevy advisors can/will do the same.
