The University of Utah, Salt Lake City and Utah Clean Energy are pleased to bring back the U Drive Electric program, which extends discounts on multiple makes and models of electric vehicles to the community. The second round of U Drive Electric offers U community members and Salt Lake City community members the opportunity to purchase or lease electric and plug-in-hybrid vehicles at discounted prices starting Sept.12 through Oct. 31, 2016.

Car dealers are able to offer a discount because the program drives targeted customer demand during a limited timeframe. To those who enroll through the program, there will be discounts on BEV (battery-electric) or PHEV (plug-in-hybrid electric) car models from BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Nissan and additional used car models. Discounts vary by vehicle make and model, but range between 3 percent and 25 percent off the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. Details will be available online starting Sept, 12.

You can register to receive a customized discount code. Once registered, you work directly with any of the selected dealers to purchase or lease the electric car of your choice. Participants must sign a contract before Oct. 31, 2016 to guarantee the discount.

FWIW: Open to Salt Lake City community members only and seems the Chevy Volt will rate the smaller 3% discount thru the single Young Chevy dealer which is disappointing!:(

I live near Salt Lake and I can say this state is chock full of fools willing to pay retail on a vehicle.

I'm really surprised to see the $2k discount. Usually, there's about $2k in "Additional Dealer Mark-up" on the sticker.
