I live in a rural area and don't worry much about security so would like to be able to turn off all auto locking and auto alarms. In other words I want to be in control of the car rather than the other way around. Is this possible and how? Thanks

Did you check the owner's manual? My Volt does not auto lock.

The config button on the center console gives you access to lots of settings in the various menus. You can do what you ask in there. I don't recall the exact menus, but you will find it if you look.

Yes I think it's in vehicle settings, lock/unlock. You can turn off auto locking, remote left in vehicle honk, startup sounds, locking/unlocking chirp/honk, etc. I turned off all that noisy stuff.

Is there really a way to turn off the auto lock when you shift the gen 1 out of park? I thought I looked and couldn't find it
No, that stays on. You can program the car to unlock the doors when you shift back into park. That should help if you are annoyed by the doors being locked.

The auto lock that can be turned off is the feature that locks the doors after you exit the vehicle.
