Unfortunately I had a transmission failure even before I drove or took delivery of the car —2018 manufactured March 15, 2018.
They’ve had the car now almost two weeks to swap in a transmission and reading the above stories makes me very nervous about module failures or the like and nervous about actually accepting this car, given that I’m sure they had to rip the engine cradle out as noted above.
I’m just afraid what’s going to happen as a result of having them do all that disassembly.
I’ve already put in a call to GM asking at a minimum about them giving me an extended warranty, but I’m even wondering whether that is enough or if I should just tell them to forget the sale at this point and return my money. I would take a replacement.
GM customer service merely said we have to wait for them to complete the repair and then we’ll talk. Again, I don’t have a whole lot of confidence at this point, given how intricate this car is. This is not like replacing a transmission in a ‘69 Nova.
On the other hand, I’ve read a couple other stories on this board about people having the transmission replaced, and it’s been OK. It’s just very concerning in a complex but brand new car that had 7 miles on the odometer before this happened.
Fortunately this is not my first experience with a generation 2. We have 2 16s which have been fine and have been from the beginning.
Good thing that this is not my first Volt.
