Hi Volt community. I got my 2014 metallic silver volt from Carvana about a month ago. I am obsessed. I love this car. I have noticed that after a full charge, the electric range keeps getting higher and higher. The car is rated to get 38 miles per full charge, but most recently it's showing 46 miles of range. This seems like a dream-come-true, but could it mean my battery is using too much of its capacity (which could lead to a shorter life span) or maybe the range is considering my previous drive style to calculate this range? Very confused!

The range it shows is the car's estimate of how far it will get on the charge currently in the battery, including driving history and temperature as well as state of charge. If you drive gently at lower speed sit will go up; hammering it and high speeds (or lots of HVAC) will drive the estimate down even though the total energy in the pack remains the same, because the car expects that you won't get as far on the energy.

You've apparently been driving well, so the car is telling you it'll get further. The pack will be fine, and it isn't using any more of the pack or charging to a higher level - and if you'd run out of battery the first day or the last day driving the same way, it'd be at the same point - the car is just adjusting its expectations to you.

You answered your own question. I think it is also mentioned somewhere in the manual. Don't worry, there is no way to over charge the drive battery.
Just enjoy the drive and try not to look too goofy with that Volt Smile on your face. Don't even think about the poor souls up north that are driving through winter wondering why their battery range is dropping. ;):D

Sometimes Volts are so good, they create wormholes to allow you to travel distances without using time.

Yes, I got craft beer for Christmas!

The Volt is showing it's appreciation of the way you drive. :D
And your location.... Be thankful you don't UP NORTH, I doubt we'd be having this conversation.. Ha ha and Merry Christmas.

Nothing to be concerned about. You're doing great. One day, you'll likely get this: View attachment 126193

Just be glad you have mild weather down in FL. In IL, I'm getting around 24-28 miles of range, and worse if I decide to drive like Jeff Gordon. My range loss is caused by cold, using the heater, and snow tires. Just wait until hot summers when you need to turn on the AC. Even if you forgo the AC, the car will still turn it on to cool the battery.

Good to hear- I bought my 2013 on Dec 4, and am getting 29 miles of ev range, using heater sparingly. Looking forward to springtime!

Exactly. Mine shows 26 miles fully charged. It's not exactly warm in Wisconsin this time of year. Mine's an '11. In summer, I show 36-37 miles fully charged.

I get routinely at least 46EV miles. Even got 49.6EV one morning. So Cal is good place for electric vehicles.
Run in normal mode for better range. I run in sport mode on the fwy.
At night on way home my range is around 37EV miles. Headlights on.

2013 volt - tire pressure 41psi.
