Hi Folks, Anyone had problems with their Illuminated Charge Port?

We are having what Western NC considers a deep freeze. We went from 48F to 22F within a few hours. When I got home and opened my charge port I heard an odd click and the illumination went kaput. Hopefully it just needs to thaw. I really depend on it since it is dark where I charge and I can see the progress from my window better than the dash light.

This is the first issue I have had with my Volt and all in all it is not too bad of a problem. I figured if it is temperature sensitive my folks in the frozen north can tell me.

Thanks
Jon

I think the "odd click" may have told you something. Time (and increasing temperature) will tell. You live in a beautiful part of NC.:)

If you look at your charge port door, there's a black prong that triggers the switch. Chances are that there's ice buildup in the hole and shoving the moving prong in and out into the hole likely caused the ice to shift.

The little switch that is at the end of the hole. You can feel it with your pinky. Have a pick and gently wiggle the switch. You can also see the metal fingers.

Thank You. I love it here and even better that we are deep in the woods. I like the Illuminated Port so I can keep the lights low enough to always see the billions of stars.

Problem is diagnosed!

I got out the flashlight to look behind the port and saw the wire had been broken. Then I took a closer look at the charge port and realized a ding bat installed the illuminated port. Apparently the idgit paid no attention to threading the wiring and wrapped it around the charge post. No wonder I have always struggled to get the charger to lock in place. So I will be calling my dealer to see how we handle this. If I remember correctly, it is the dealership who installs the charge port and not the factory. Glad I am still within the bumper to bumper warranty.

Here is the picture I will email my dealer's service department tomorrow so they can see exactly what I am talking about and request they order a new charge port light since wiring is compromised.

That is definitely wrong! The wire is supposed to be tucked behind the bezel. The wire will then have to go through a drain hole behind the bezel to be routed back into the engine bay...
They fixed it by replacing it. I swear this new one is brighter. I also got the recall update deal #17058. They did me right on the repair. Their Volt mechanic was wondering who put the illuminated port in wrong since it was so obvious. And gave a couple other mechanics dirty looks.
