This place is the hardest forum post to that I have ever encountered. I'm assuming that someone must have abused links at some point? Having to post 10 post of mindless drivel is the reason I've never posted on here despite being a member for quite a while now. I guess I'll just reply to this thread with further junk/comments so please feel free to skip until I get my 10 posts since I don't feel like cluttering up other threads with junk/comments that have already been made.

If all you can post is junk comments, why bother?

Actually, I think it would be good if all other forums adopted the same policy. There is so much lousy civility in society now days that it begins to make it unpleasant to look for other peoples opinion. Generally what you find on this forum is much better than the internet in general.

BTW welcome to the forum. One down, nine to go.

Some may recall the days when this forum was a favorite for spammers. Since a number of new steps were taken, spam posts have dropped to about zero.

But to the poster, keep in mind that we also tend to ban people for posting gibberish or pointless comments. So be engaged with your comments :)

Not too bad for a first post. It's many a time the first one is a complaint about the car.;)

Now you understand why I haven't posted before. The first time I tried to reply to a thread with some useful information and links to said information I got the message that I needed to have a post-count of 10 before I could post links. That seemed like a chore I'd leave for another time and I guess that time is now...

Not sure but this may be the worst newcomer introduction ever. I don't read that many anymore so I could be wrong about that.
There was that one guy (or gal) that posted, the replied to themselves 9 more times in order to post a link. I think steverino pretty much shut him (or her) down.

So you are saying that anything you might post that doesn't include a link would be mindless drivel? So, perhaps, the initial 10 posts without links is really to test for original thinking? In any case, it does seem to deter spammers.

An ER doctor was seeing a patient who had a big rash on her chest in the shape of an M. When asked why the big M, she said her boyfriend likes to wear his college sweatshirt while they are amorous, and he was a Michigan wolverine graduate. The doctor prescribed some medicated creme to relieve her rash. 20 minutes later, another young woman shows up in the ER, also with an M on her chest. The doctor says "let me guess, your boyfriend is a Michigan graduate." She replied, "No my girlfriend went to Wisconsin"

A rather obese gentleman walks into a doctors office and was given a full exam.
The doctor said, "Mr. Smith, I recommend that you start exercising regularly".
"Doctor, if the Good Lord would have wanted me to exercise, he would have put toes on my knees".

As a moderator on CruzeTalk I agree with the policy of x number of posts before posting links and pictures. What we see there is spammers posting a few innocuous "introductory" and "fluff" posts and then spamming the forum. Unfortunately, protection of the forum from spammers does cause problems for the person who has an issue, creates an account, and then can't post images or links to images that help explain the problem.

My recommendation is that you browse around and if you have something to contribute then do so. It doesn't take that long to be able to include links and images.

Forum newbies often don't understand why these sorts of rules are in place because they just don't know better.

OP, as mentioned by several people now, the rules are to avoid spam issues. Spam accounts that do slip through countermeasures almost always immediately start by posting garbage threads and replies full of links for everything from "cheap sunglasses" to porn. Preventing new members from being able to post links until after 10 legit posts stops this in it's tracks.

Reaching 10 legitimate posts on a forum is easy. Honestly...go read a few threads and participate in them with meaningful replies and you'll be there inside about 10 minutes.

Complaining about it takes far more effort than actually contributing to the forum, and posting garbage just to reach that limit seldom works as the mods will almost certainly just delete it all and you are no further ahead.

For example, a newbie just started a new thread and posted "Fiair rahdi r sd naftntensir!!" They are now banned. Others use actual words that are meaningless or could have been posted in any thread they are so generic. The rule of 10 and other measures helps us to catch these and eject them before they become a blight on the forum.
