How the heck do you get the text message feature on the infotianment screen to work? My iPhone is connected through bluetooth, and phone calls work fine, but text messages do squat.

Maybe it doesn't work with an iPhone but I have tested it with both a Windows phone and an Android phone and it works well with them.

You can use CarPlay to retrieve text messages if you don't mind having your phone plugged into the USB port.

It works on the Gen 1 cars with the iPhone and there is no reason why it shouldn't work on a Gen 2 car. There is a setting on the phone that you have to change in Bluetooth for the car. See if I can find it...

Yep illegal pretty well everywhere to use a mobile device while driving but you knew that already. That's why the OP wants to get this working I have no doubt.

Works really well though.

I got sidetracked and forgot about my post. No I haven't tried it yet. I have no intention of texting while driving, I know if I try, I would end up in a ditch pretty fast. I just wanted to be able to read a text on the screen.

Ok. I change the notification setting in my iPhone, and it works now. Thanks Sly Bob.

And just in case you were not aware of this. The car will NOT let you read a text message while you are moving. It will read it to you with a lovely feminine voice. You can only read a text yourself while stopped.

Does your car even alert you that you received a text message? On my iPhone the text message alerts go away completely when it's connected to the car via Bluetooth. Phone calls come in fine but no sound plays for text messages so I have to constantly just look at my phone to see if I have any new messages.

Yes. If I remember correctly, there is a ding sound and a message appears at the bottom of the center screen with options to have the car read it or reply with a pre-programed response. However with Android Auto running you can reply by voice text.

If the iPhone is configured correctly you get a message on the screen that you have a text and a tone is played. Did you set up your phone as in the link I posted earlier? It is possible to reply to a text via voice to text recognition via Siri.

Works great on my Gen 1 car.

Not only does my Volt let me know about texts, my Fitbit has a haptic feature that works, too.
