No Tesla stations in our area, but it is interesting that you are able to charge a Volt using an adapter. The future is getting closer all the time.

Assuming this is for real, you're still stuck with the slow recharge rate of the Volt, at best adding about 10 miles of range in one hour.

If this so-called adapter (which must be converting high voltage DC power to 240V or 120V AC) is shady or out of spec, and you have charging issues down the road, you may find your warranty blocked.

I thought some Model S' (40 or 60 kWh versions) didn't have access to supercharging....so even if you managed to rig an adapter, how can you actually charge?

No it wasn't. These aren't plugs like you have at your house. The Supercharger station is going to do software negotiation before it starts letting any current through. So basically what you're claiming here is that you have access to Tesla's proprietary encryption and authentication procedures, and then you managed to reverse engineer them into an adapter.

The photo shows the 90 kW DC handle right against the Volt J1772. If there was adapter, the author would have a closeup of it and the handle would stick out further. Tesla has made this a proprietary system and only DC current passes to the vehicle.

If GM was to design a similar "SuperCharger" for a second generation Volt using the most recent 120 kW rate Tesla is now installing, then the Volt would charge up in 6 minutes.

Or, you know, it would make front page news on every EV site that someone had managed to crack Tesla's supercharger stations for general purpose use.

^^^This. There's no adapter in place between plug and connector.

It's an advanced microthin adapter.

Unfortunately, it is no longer available as the prototype car (pictured) could not handle 90 KW recharge rate, and all that was retrieved was this photo on the SD card of a very damaged camera found near the bonfire... :p

doh

and also not mentioned the Tesla charge station communicates with the Model S before it begins charging. So foggetaboutit, other EV drivers. Ain't happenin.

Too funny! I agree with those who call bovine fecal matter on this one.

From the above picture, here is my guess: jimtesla has an accomplice holding the Supercharger cable up against his Volt's charging port. The accomplice is hidden by the Supercharger station. I know from when I've been to a Supercharger station that the 'chord' is extremely stiff - meaning it would be very easy to stage the photo as I suggest. And I think I see the reflection of someone in the Volt's door.

takes a Jim to call a Jim out...lol

well I will now show my adapter since I have permission

its 19 years in the making and fully electric bound...no other car will do

I stopped here to see the Tesla Supercharging setup and could not have been more impressed

Its so simple......no frills.....no big signs.....just plug.....Nice

So after getting there it hit me....Got to have a Volt picture at the Tesla charging station

This will be great conversation piece Sunday when go for my scheduled Model S test drive

Hey look what my Volt can do

PS nobody caught the fact my charge light on the dash was off...Doh

Ha, you can't pull one over on this crowd, that's for sure.

I like the Chevy emblem on the grille.

Now that the truth is revealed, the new question is if a 240 volt AC charge would occur when the SuperCharger is connected to a Model S without active SuperCharger circuits? Haven't found any posts where someone had tried. But I do remember that one early user needed a software upgrade to use the SuperCharger. There is definitely some serious communication going on between the two.
