Daimler already has working batteries in the Euro Smart EV. Why on earth would they need to bother with Tesla? Groan! :rolleyes:
It may have more to do with the systems used to control battery charging and discharging. Their latest system, to be used with a single reduction gear, instead of a multi-speed transmission, supposedly uses the latest power silicon, so Mercedes may want that.

I agree that the COTS batteries aren't unique - intentionally.

I suppose the M-B deal gives Tesla something useful to do.

Another good choice would be to build and deliver the cars for which they've taken deposits.

But that's just crazy talk.
