Interesting. I'm not sure we've seen this before. I'm not buying the "just a general review" line. My guess is Tesla is looking at profitability and it's not pretty. May not directly impact production depending on what positions are affected, but in every organization I've been involved with, layoffs like this distract everyone as the grapevine is activated. So not the best timing.

They should fire Musk. Get somebody in there who knows how to run a manufacturing company.
+1. He's inept on the production front. That was painfully (or comically) obvious from the movie Who Saved the Electric Car. The best situation would be for him to be CEO and to let someone with more skills be the COO. However, it's not in his DNA to cede responsibility like that. There is a reason for all the turnover we've seen at the top of Tesla.

Either jcanoe beat Bad News Bro with the post or Bro is mellowing in his old age :)

I read this news yesterday and some of the people fired said they had good performance reviews prior to being fired. Some of those fired were union organizers, others had been late to work twice in the last month. Overall, the number fired seems low compared to total headcount, but it can't help the short term production issues.

True but unlike Tesla GM is a large company with many manufacturing facilities. Those workers who lost their jobs have the opportunity to find work at other GM plants.

After hours trading of TSLA should be interesting...

Anyone who has a very late manufacturing reservation for a Model 3 should consider asking for it back RSN(real soon now)

Oh, will this push back the Semi-debut yet again?

The timing is certainly not good for Tesla. Rather than firing workers, you would think they should be hiring like crazy for workers to man badly needed service centers and repair shops. It is becoming increasingly evident that becoming a full fledged auto manufacturer is not easy and the learning curve is STEEP! Should they be looking for a partner?

It looks like they are trying to hide the anti-union firings among the reduction-in-force firings from Solar City jobs and sales types...:(

+1/2. It's not in his DNA to be told what to do is more like it.

The reason the underperformers underperformed was because they didn't do the "dear leader Elon" chant enough! Only 9 times a week instead of 10, so they were canned!
