He is an ass, but gets things done. If he says he will do something he generally does.

However, I am aware he says whatever to boost the stock and keep money flowing.

Either way, it sounds like what I have said before, something much faster is required to replace gas, and this sounds like it. Even 350k could come close, but I think MW would open the flood gates.

I've always suspected that the fastest DC Charging speeds would be achieved coming from local battery storage rather than "the grid".

That's what he seems to be referring to here.

The electric car industry in general (Tesla or otherwise) could really get a big shot in the arm if DC charging time reaches parody with gasoline refueling time.

It will be interesting to see how companies control and manage heat generated from >350kW charging.

I don't need 350k charging, I'd be ecstatic with level 2 charging at work.

But you've got to wonder whether a guy in charge of multiple companies should be twittering like this. Of course our president elect seems to be doing the same thing.

Hopefully when it is time to replace my Volt in 2024 or so 350kW+ charging and 300+ mile range batteries will be widely available. I am certainly more optimistic about this than I was when I bought my Volt.

I don't think he is. I think he's referring to the need for full integration and cost reduction to make the economics work.

Solar can provide some cheap kWh, and the battery pack could help lower demand changes, earn money from demand response, and lower the cost of some more electricity.

I think it's reached parody already.

Easy: just have 3 batteries and 3 sockets. ;)

Or 2 x 400V batteries that become a single 800V battery for higher voltage DC charging, then switch back to the normal 400V for normal driving. It's just relays. ;)

I wonder if there will be a robust or lackluster used Tesla market when early Model S owners want 350k charging, autopilot, and AWD.... one of the perils of being first on the block with a new product.

It tends to be in the middle, but there's probably going to be a bunch of CPOs pop up because of the P100D, the new L5 Autopilot hardware, and the last of the orderable "free" Supercharging for the life of the vehicle. After the first, I suspect the Model S/X 100D (non-Performance) will be released, and will nudge more people with S60 or S85 to upgrade. I'm doing fine with my "Classic" S85. ;)

Funny, I was on the tesla site last night dream configuring and noticed that you cannot configure an S100D, it has to be a P100D. All that speed, even without ludicrous mode scares me - especially with a teenager about to get behind the wheel. I wish they made a model S with grandpa mode (anemic acceleration, maxes out at 75 mph, etc).

Yeah, that's why I said the S/X 100D would be released after the first (1/1/17)

You can place it in Valet mode, which limits the acceleration to "mild" and the top speed is 70. It also locks the frunk and glovebox. So yeah, you can take the "supercar" and turn it into an Altima at the press of a button.

Cool, grandpa mode it is if and when I pull the trigger on a tesla. I used to want really fast cars, but after driving a CTS-V around a race track (whoch was a blast), I'm terrified to have that much HP on the streets with potholes, pedestrians, and other cars for fear of doing something stupid...the temptation will always be there.

Hopefully the tesla seats are much better than Altima seats. After driving 22 hours in a rented Altima, I'm definitely never going to buy one. And next time I get a rental, I'll beg for something different.
