So my OEM EVSE has been collecting dust for my 2018 Volt because I purchased the dedicated L2 from day one and only used that. What has been annoying about it was that every day I went to work I had to open the garage door (Volt Sleeps Outside) unplug the L2, roll it up and take it to work. Setup at work and then take down and setup at home again. Not the end of the world but is annoying at 4am leaving to work, lol. After reading all the info from this forum about doing it I did and it was 100% successful. So now I keep the OEM at work with the adapter and leave my dedicated L2 at home since I need faster charging at home. Bought an RV 30amp cord that had the nema 5-15 receptacle already part of it and just hacked off the RV end and added a Nema L6-20 plug (that's what my home and work outlets are). Came out to just over 18 bucks and only took me 10 minutes to make. So glad you guys share so much info on here for others to do things like this.

Hey! If I understand what you've done, just remember not to let someone innocently plug a 120 VAC device into your adapter. It'll get 240 VAC and be fried!
I cut off my charger's 120v plug and replaced it with an L6-20 style plug. So that way there's no normal looking receptacle with 240V lurking in it. But this brought it's own issues, so I'm not sure your solution isn't better. Plus your adapter looks unusual enough that hopefully nobody will just walk up and plug in a leaf blower.

I doubt he'll ever use that adapter for anything else, so plug the EVSE into it, wrap the connection with a few layers of electrical tape and the two will become one and there will be no need to worry

If you use a carton of beer to support the EVSE instead of water you'll always have beer.

Lmao, you guys are too funny. That isnt where it sits. I just put it in there to test it. That's my house 240 outlet in the garage and my dedicated l2 is hung on the wall. They never rest on anything but the floor or are hung during normal use.

As far as someone plugging something else into it. Adapter goes with me as I store the OEM evse in the car so it will only be used when I'm charging and at work my car is kept inside so nobody will mess with it. lol.

Hopefully nobody sees it at work and mistakes it for an short extension cord when it's plugged in.

Well they would have to go into the shop (which is my classroom) unplug my car, setting off my alarm, and then plug something into it on the floor by the bay I leave the car in while in clear view of my students and me. If they could manage to do all that I would pay to fix whatever they broke, lol.

Where I work, anytime a potential safety hazard is identified, the entire staff of 400 must take a training class on how to be safe and avoid the hazard.

Create a training video for your class on how to never plug anything except your EVSE into that little adapter.

I know that the EVSE relay that handles one live line and one neutral line can also handle two live lines. The special "extension" has a "Twist-Lock" plug, so I doubt anyone else can use it incorrectly.

Thank you, everyone always seems to jump to the criticism or negative comments I notice. Yeah the end I have a twist lock adapter as well not pictured so nobody can really screw this up.

I've been using mine for over a month...happy to not have to wait 13 hours as I drive 86 miles RT every day...all for a few bucks!
I've always had my L2 at home but was tired of always lugging it back and forth from work. This way I have 2. One for home and one for wherever else I go as I keep it in the car in its side kick panel storage compartment. Keep 3 adapters in the car now. A nema 6-20, L6-20, 14-30 and 14-50. This way I have access to a broader amount of outlets.
