Solar panel warranties - How do they work?
How do solar companies fulfill their warranties? Do they change one panel if it breaks or is underperforming? How long will my system be out of commission if this happens?

When my array got destroyed by a tree, the homeowners insurance covered it. For my Sunpower panels, I believe they'd be replaced if they don't produce 80% of the original production during the first 25 years. That would be rare though.

Most modules have 20-25 year warranties.

If one module breaks, it depends on your inverter configuration as to downtime. If you have a big inverter for a string of modules, the bad module will take down the entire string. If you have micro-inverters (one mounted on the back of each module), then the system will be degraded by only the faulty module.

There are pros/cons between string inverters and micro-inverters. Micro-inverters are a little more expensive, but also perform better as each module is individually optimized. Especially true when there are shading issues.
