Since I'm on the phone I will be as brief as possible, pardon typos.

Took volt to a dealer yesterday because service charging system popped up. They didn't have any loaners, all they offered was a shuttle ride to my house and pit my name on a wait list 1.5 week wait.

Nothing can be done right but wait? I had a feeling id somehow get left screwed over so I leave work this morning (I work nights) took the slower back way. 35 mile trip. Put it in hold mode and everything was going well.

Less than 10 miles into the trip , luckily I was on the service road when it happened.shift to park and sudden stop. Barely had time to pull over Tova half safe distance

Called OnStar. Half way through the call the entire car died. No OnStar, no hazard lights. 100% dead

Making it even more messed up, no dealerships in the entire dfw area have any loaners due to being all out for some big recall of tahos and Silverados

I'm tired. Starving... And no idea how ill get home or how I will get to work...

Great way to end my night at work.

Will update

I recommend you call Enterprise to bring you a rental car (I think they still deliver), or Uber your way to another rental agency. You may be able to claim rental reimbursement under the courtesy transportation part of the warranty.

So sorry to hear about this.

Start a notebook NOW (or a file on your computer).
Just the facts of the situation, no emotions or speculation.
Log all of the details, the who/what/where/when. Include all the facts, time, date, mileage.
Make sure you log anyone you talk to (full name if possible) and what they tell you.
Maintain the log for the entire duration of the incident until you are satisfied everything is resolved.

It's amazing how much help you actually get when you have everything neatly written down and all of the details logged. Most people try to recount things from memory and that is a huge mistake.

Sucks...If you're still there, take a pick of your 12v battery terminals and post them up...

Update -- finally home 3 hours later

I have dash cam footage as well of the event... it's nothing spectacular or crazy, but it's there

Tow truck driver got there right in the alloted window (45 min) was a really good guy, friendly, helpful, will totally be emailing his company and giving him kudos.

once at the dealership - it got dropped off and after explaining the situation that I have to be back at work in 12 hours... and that I need a car, they did "find one they can spare" -- wish that would have been the case yesterday when I was there.

Tow Truck driver was really cool -- made the whole experience not near as bad as it could be.

Back in a Cruz loaner... with the seeming shortage of loaners at all the chevy dealerships in the area... I guess I'm just happy I have 4 wheels and an engine. At least I can get to work tonight.

Several things made it a bit weird during the 1/2 of the OnStar conversation I had in the car... Volt Road side service apparently does not have the ability to see where you are at. I'm not sure if it's because the entire 12V system died 1/2 way through or what, found it a bit odd that a super connected car with OnStar and LTE can't be located in emergency situations.

Will update more... just dead tired after a night of work and this stuff. Wonder if when I raise the issue with GM (this is the 2nd time I've had serious failure - first was a high voltage fuse that forced the car to run in gas mode as a failsafe) wonder if their solution is to send me some more cheap pens with a Volt logo, and a hat. *eyeroll*

To me it makes a lot of sense. Try using your cell phone after you remove the phone's battery, or getting your GPS coordinates without power to your Garmin.

Perhaps -- but I still had 19 miles worth of juice left in the main battery. I realize the 12V and high voltage systems are seperate... but the car still had around 6 kWh worth of juice onboard. Guess it just had no way to access it.

Major suckage. I hope they get to the bottom of it soon.

My son in Milwaukee needs to have my Buick looked at. He called the dealer yesterday, who is also a GMC truck dealer, and was told they can't see it until after Thanksgiving. Guessing it must be because of the same recall?

Glad to hear you made it home ... finally. Hope this gets resolved quickly. My '17 has been flawless, and here's keeping my fingers crossed as I see a few others having issues. Let us know what the problem was.
