FWIW, I put together a simple phone holder from a car seat "gap filler" I purchased at the local Fred Meyer for $7 and inserted the male end of the micro USB charging adapter from a $10 phone cradle from Amazon in the bottom. It's easy to just drop the phone in and have it connect to Android Auto. The cord routes along the trim seam and under the little rubber mat in front of the car's USB ports. Very stealth.
