I appreciate all the enhancements GM made in the Gen2 Volt. Two features they removed are a bit of a head scratcher though. 1. Homelink (I'll add this myself at some point) and 2. Turn signals integrated into the side mirrors. I really like how these look in the Gen1 Volt, and would like to figure out options to add them to my Gen2.

Anyone know of another GM side mirror which includes turn signal lights that could be easily swapped with the Gen2 Volt mirrors, or anyone tried to retrofit an LED strip or something into the Gen2 side mirror?

1. Homelink
That was probably removed for cost saving. Yeah, it would have been nice, but they wanted to reduce cost where possible.

2. Turn signals integrated into the side mirrors.
Since the Gen2 Volt is not sold in Europe, they didn't put the turn signals on the mirrors (they aren't required in US). I do feel like this is a safety issue, and it would be nice to have them. I can't imagine it saved that much money, but, yeah, Chevy is famous for widespread cost cutting.

GM no longer uses "home link", they use their own version called Universal Home Remote...Up until a few years ago it appear nearly every GM vehicle could have "home link" on some trim level but after they switched to the Universal Home Remote it's now reserved for higher trim levels and so far, not available on the Volt or Bolt EV...It should also be noted that the buttons locations are now overhead console...

Mirrors are an interesting one because the new Cruze does have them...I believe who ever made the decision to omit them didn't realize they'd be missed unlike home link (they did get some backlash from the Gen2 community about missing home link but still kept it out of the Bolt EV)...

I wonder if the new owner Gentex of the Homelink patents wanted too much money, I don't think GM is the only company getting rid of them. It amazes me how crappy garage door openers are and how few updates there have been over the years. I would expect new technologies to catch on soon (like Bluetooth) that will render Homelink obsolete.

For the replacement of the HomeLink, could you not get the "myQ Liftmaster" app to control the garage door opener. I use the app on my iPhone all the time and with apple CarPlay it would just be an additional app on the screen.

You can but if you have MyQ enabled openers you can just get the Chamberlain/Liftmaster internet gateway and it will open all your enabled openers for much less.

It is still slower to unlock your phone then open the app than it is to just press a Homelink button.

Photos of the upcoming Buick Velite (i.e., Chinese Volt) also appear to have the turn signals in the mirrors.
