I feel stupid for even asking this..... but how do I turn off the radio/music/Pandora without turning off the infotainment system? I know about the mute button will stop the noise, but when I check my phone it is still pulling either my songs from the memory or linking to Pandora.

Every time I start the car it immediately starts playing tunes via the Bluetooth connection, or the USB connection. It also happens with audio books. If I was listening to a book when I last used the car, it automatically starting playing the book again as soon as I start the car. If I shut down the whole system, I lose the access to car play for maps, calls and texts.

I feel like I am in a constant fight with the system to get it do what I want. There has to be something I am missing.

That is why it is called "Infotainment System". "Information/Entertainment System". Two systems merged together with ONE power supply. Have your tried "pause" instead of mute?

I usually pick a radio station in that case. A muted radio or XM station does not keep going through you phone and your place is keep in iTunes (at least, I do not use Pandora, however I would assume that stops).

Sometimes you just have to ask yourself how GM can get the interface so wrong. LOL Seems perfectly obvious that having the faucet turn on when you flip the light switch isn't the best design.

Simplest solution is to get a separate power adapter that plugs into the cigarette style power port, then plug your smartphone into there. Use a different colored cable for the USB port (i steal one of my daughter's rainbow loom bands, but colored electrical tape will work too) so you can choose when you just want to charge and when you want USB phone integration.

I wish the gen 1 would automatically find my phone and start playing Bluetooth from where I last left off. No, I have to hit the button on the steering wheel every time to cycle through the options to get to Bluetooth, and only after waiting 30 seconds or so after starting the car.

Another option is to plug something into the AUX port so the car senses the cable, then use AUX as your main audio source selection. Bluetooth will still pair for phone calls, but with your default audio set to AUX, and with nothing plugged into the other end of that cable there's no music, only silence.

The whole infotainment system is a crock !

I find that i suffer random freezes of everything if the car decides to enable carplay first. The audio volume doesnt work, you can sometimes change channels on the same band (ie. AM or FM) but cannot switch between them and onstar doesnt work (light flashes but no sound which is surely a potential safety issue). The DIC displays "audio off" but you cant turn it back on or reset it unless you either leave the car off for 10 minutes or sometimes if you leave the car, unplug phone etc and walk away for about 50/60 yards.

It can happen regardless of the order in which I do things but I can almost always replicate the behaviour by plugging the phone into USB port before switching the car on. If the carplay logo is shown on the phone before I have pressed the start button I can almost always get it to (mis)behave this way. I try to remember to switch on before plugging phone in but even when I do this it seems to do the same thing every so often ... there is no single way to make it do it, sometimes it just seems so random.

Even when it does not do this, I also find that carplay/mylink can start playing random files when plugged in at first .... apart from music, I have also had theme tunes from my kids games on my phone and even audio from a website like youtube that I had been viewing on my phone ... I put much of these specific errors down to carplay itself as its really buggy on IOS10. I have reported things like Waze or other apps with speedometers displaying half speed when connected to carplay, the incoming call screens not rotating to landscape half the time and other random annoyances but it seems no-one cares about those. Do Android users have the same issue ? Perhaps its time to change phone ?

Does the USB not kick over automatically if you plug it in last? (I can't tell about streaming, since the '12s don't do that, but everything else switches if you connect a new thing while the infotainment is up and running. Plug in a thumb drive, it switches to USB. Plug a cord into the AUX jack, it switches. Put a disc into the slot, it switches to that.)

On the BoltEV, push and hold the mute/power button. Haven't try it on the Volt yet.
Whatever you do, don't press the power/start button of any of these vehicles twice while moving.

My personal solution to this is to play a short youtube video on my iPhone. I have one bookmarked that ends in 15 seconds. Once the video ends, the bluetooth connection is paused and there is no further autoplay. I do this trick whenever using the Nav on a long trip. If I remember before leaving the house, I play the video there first so it is already queued up. Then when I get in my '14 Volt and turn on the Infotainment system set to bluetooth (previously paired to my phone), the same video autoplays again. But once the video ends ... silence (except for the directions of the Nav system). Ta Da!

Wouldn't it be easier to just hum the Jeopardy song in your head as you first sit down in the volt?

I may be wrong on this (haven't tested it), but I believe there are separate volume controls for navigation and radio, so you should be able to just turn the radio down to zero and the navigation voice will still play. Ta Da!

#1 Jeopardy Song -- The point is, if the Nav is on you also have either AM, FM, XM, or Bluetooth. The first 3 keep making noise and sometimes I don't want that. With Bluetooth, if it is set to music (iTunes collection) there is autoplay of a random song or a song I have selected. While I can manually pause either, anytime I change the volume on the Nav autoplay resumes where it left off. If a playlist had ended, it starts over when I touch the volume. For some reason with the YouTube video, I don't get this resumption of autoplay when I change the Nav volume. I find I change the Nav volume a number of times on a long trip as I want to hear clearly when approaching a complex, unfamiliar interchange while i want it down during stretches I'm familiar with but still want a reminder not to miss my exit. Also turn up Nav volume at highway speeds and lower it when I slow down.

#2 Separate volume controls for Nav and radio -- Yes these do exist but the radio volume resets to a default volume every time the Infotainment system is turned on and would need to be turned down each time the vehicle is restarted (several times on a long road trip for each bathroom break, meal break, and stops to purchase that nasty gasoline). I think I can change the default to a low volume but sometimes I actually do want to listen to something so then I'd be turning it up each time. All of these procedures are workable options but also are workarounds for a system that I would prefer to exist as 2 separate entities (entertainment and Nav). And, while I could just use the GPS on my phone, I do like the bigger screen that the Volt offers and the ability to hear the directions through the car speakers. So, I offer my "personal solution" here for those that didn't realize the YouTube videos aren't susceptible to the autoplay problem. Podcasts are also not susceptible to autoplay so if a podcast is completed, autoplay will not restart it with each touch of the volume button (but podcasts are auto-deleted from my phone 24 hours after listening so my weekday podcast isn't there during a trip on the weekend and autoplay again randomly selects a song from my music library if I haven't queued up my preferred YouTube video which I leave open in a Safari tab at all times for this purpose).

"Autoplay" when plugging in is one issue, the other is if receiving notifications sets off autoplay...Receive a FB message or a Waze notification and it triggers autoplay...I'm part of a VBall group and a Happy Hour group, if one person asks about a game/HH location, usually it results in dozens of replies over the next hour...I now have an Equinox without CP and while I get autoplay upon first plugging in, receiving a notification does not trigger autoplay...This was one of the top three reasons I moved on from the Volt...
