So it's coming up on that time of the biennial. My iPhone 6 Plus has been great but the new Androids are super nice and honestly, I am weary from Apple's tight user-experience control and their lack of updates. I am an enthusiastic Waze user and Apple has frustrated me by not making it available on my Volt screen in Carplay. For example, while I am using their maps, and get a call, it just goes to the phone app. I would like to not go to the phone screen and keep the map up and just answer the call but there is no way to configure this. Ugh.

Can folks using Android auto comment on some of these items? How do you like it? How user configurable is it? Is there a way I can simply mirror the phone display and use finger control on the Volt screen?

I'm a long time Android user and kinda anti Apple. Having said that, I'd suggest that you download, or at least look at the AA. I'm pretty sure that the available apps are quite limited, probably due to safety &/or liability concerns.

I'm just an equal opportunity nerd and I don't get emotional about technology, but in any case, I think you will find that AA doesn't have Waze available either. I think you can thank your favorite neighborhood law slime for that... Everyone's way too worried about getting sued... They'd rather not be liable and have you hooking up some funky window, vent, or CD slot mount and using the app that way. Then they at least have plausible deniability when you run off the cliff due to some crazy GPS interaction.

I think I recall a thread on here where someone got full mirror capability on theirs through some HDMI interface thing... I'll poke around and see if I can find it.

This is more of a religious discussion :)

How you feel about Apple or Android shouldn't change much just because you have a Volt. Don't let the Volt be the reason for your decision.

I thought I had seen this here...
That's for Gen1, maybe it'll still work but I'd do my research...

I've said it from day one, unless you like the default nav app for CP/AA, most will hate it...Waze currently is not available for AA, I googled what is and almost all their apps are some sort of audio streaming...I'm a huge waze user, I bought a section cup cell phone mount ($5 shipped from jet.com) and use it on my windshield which is a better viewpoint for me vs the screen...Siri works great without CP...

Google is moving towards tighter control with Android as well. If you don't like the frequency of quality and updates from Apple, Android will be worse (look forward to several month delays for OS updates if ever). Waze is not yet available on Android Auto either. I personally prefer Waze as well, I'm currently Volt shopping now but I was planning to just mount my phone above or next to the Volt display.

IMO the iOS platform is far superior than the Android platform. As some have mentioned above, Apple has been supporting devices for years, where you are lucky to get an full OS update from Android. This is because the phone manufacturer has to create and sign off on the update to your phone. Why would they do this when they can sell you a new phone and make money? Most don't!

There are a lot of other reasons as others have said above, but security is prolly the best. Android is full of holes, iOS...less so.

I would make the switch if I were you.

Ignore the misrepresentations such as "Google is moving towards tighter control with Android", this is not true.

Also, the ransom link posted is not valid because, if its even true remember you have to take this stuff with a grain of salt, it is only applicable to older Androids.

I am not sure what you mean by Apples user experience controls however if you mean just the iPhone user interface then you are correct that Android will provide so many hundreds of launchers and user interface options you will have too many to choose from and you will get tired deciding. Its tiring deciding all things you can do with Android versus Apple.

At the end of the day its better to have the choice and get tired deciding which choice you want with Android versus having someone telling you what to do and controlling every aspect of what you do. Android say's "Do whatever you want you will not hurt anything".

Btw, I use Nova Launcher and am shocked with all the user experience changes I can make. I never do this but some folks root their Androids which opens up an entire new world of flexibility. It is awesome.

Btw, your question should be "Should I switch to Android from iPhone?" because with Android you have so many choices of phones it can be to hard to decide which one also. With Apple you have 1 phone that can be large or small that's it. The large one at 5.5" screen is larger than my Edge Plus which has a much larger screen.

I purchased the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus in July 2015 and I have to tell you I am so happy with it I actually feel lucky I decided on it. I could have decided on something else.

One can argue about iOS or Android however there is not argument insofar as the quality of the Samsung phones hardware versus Apple hardware. These latest Samsung phones far exceed quality of Apple iPhones.

Another reason to switch is in September Chromebooks will have the Google Play Store installed on it. This means all Android apps will run inside resizable windows on Chromebooks.

Either way I would not decide based on the Volt.

I want to be clear about what I mean here. I mentioned this to an Apple friend of mine and he told me there are apps that you can run on a MacBook.

I asked can you run every single app from the Apple App Store (that was made to run on iPhone/iPad) on a MacBook? He said no you cannot. He then apologized for not understanding what I meant.

I came back here just to clarify that.

Folks, you just can't make this stuff up. This is such a coincidence I had to come back here and share it.

My job using Blackberry's. If you do not want a Blackberry you can use your own Android or iPhone by installing this excellent software called Good For Enterprise for Blackberry type functionality.

Well, my boss just walked up to my desk 10 minutes ago and told me the company is transitioning from Blackberry to iPhone and asked if I want to get an iPhone (for free) with Good For Enterprise on it.

I told him no. I will continue using my Android.

We went from iPhones to Androids (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge) and could not be happier! We'd never go back...

Latest round of iphone leaks makes it appear both waterproofing and wireless charging (no idea if Qi will work but it does NOT work on the Apple Watch which has wireless charging so its doubtful) but without a headphone jack but there will be a lightning port to headphone jack adapter...

Putting aside for a second whether iOS software/UI is better than Android software/UI, Apple is always playing catch up.

Waterproofing, wireless charging, OLED has been on Androids for ages now.

Here we go. Let the games begin. Apple playing catch up to Android banter . Reminds me of the old galaxy s3 ads. This one always cracks me up.

Sorry I did not click your link.

I don't click random links for fear it may be a trick to force someone to view porn or see something gross. Sorry.

Perhaps you can "use your words."

What is the point you are making with the ad?

In general though, if you are in Apple fan, please stop living in the past. The S3 is probably 4/5 years old a lot has changed on iOS and Android in that time.

Exactly. My wife and I have been using the Samsung Note II for years. Never had a need to upgrade to the latest Note. And when Apple came out with their larger phone 4 years after the Note and advertised it as some amazing leap forward we just laughed. Then their iPhones started to warp.

So even if someone wanted to give me an iPhone I would decline and keep my Samsung Note II.
