I've seen postings about GM providing shorter front air dam / chin spoiler for Gen 1 Volts if requested. I have a 2017 and asked for it at my local Chevy dealer but they don't see anything available. I've searched here and other forums but don't see any references to Gen 2, only Gen 1.

Does anyone know if a shorter front air dam is available for Gen 2?

That's a shame. Your dealership didn't even offer to cut your existing one shorter? Seems a simple enough job for them.

If you're not willing to do a rough job yourself with a pair of snips, maybe find a reputable mechanic who would be willing to hoist your Volt up and trim the air dam by an inch? I would think they could do it with the dam on the car and not have to remove it.

The air damn is designed to: 1) reduce the air drag coefficient, and 2) flex during those inevitable scrapes. Before fretting those scrapes, why not live with them a little longer? When we had a 2014, we found out those scrapes are not that big of a deal. And our 2014 scraped more often than our 2017.

If your air damn starts to look unacceptably frayed on the bottom edge, THEN trim it down as you had planned. But, if you discover you can live with those scrapes, then you'll have better aerodynamics.

On my 2013, the air dam scraped everyday, twice a day, as I entered and left my driveway. It still looked fine when I turned it in. On my 2017 the air dam is shorter and is also moved away from the front of the car closer to the front wheels. It does not scrape on my driveway.

This makes a lot more sense. It's really up to your tolerance of the scrapping and if it can wait until you wear away some of the dam.

I think this really depends on where you drive. Our driveway apron is not super steep, yet even driving very carefully (which let's face it, some people-like my wife!!-just won't go super slow) the air dam of our 2014 would scrape like crazy. And crossing intersections around here many of which have a kind of gutter/drain, same thing. Then at a sister-in-laws, she is in one of those neighborhoods where they don't have driveway aprons at all but those kind of angled gutters, utterly impossible to go in without bending the air dam, and utterly impossible to get out without slamming the thing on the concrete.

Yes, it is called "Sawzall" ha ha.
Even so...STILL scraping!
And before I did that, I wish I had read a better suggestion called "just unbolt the whole thing." Since our driving is almost all around town, the aerodynamic factor is not worth worrying about.

someone DID get a shorter air dam. My dealer said there was such a thing, but not free.
