Does anyone have any documentation on how to remove the shift knob in the Gen 2's? Mine is slightly loose and I would like to tighten it up. Assuming the documentation on it might show where a set screw or any type of screw might be.
Thanks in advance!
The shift knob is a snap on fit. My only suggestion is to push down on the knob and see if it snaps back into place. Slight twisting back and forth while pushing down might make the difference. Your snap ring might be broken. From experience, I know that if the knob is not all the way down and in place, you might be able to move the shift knob out of Park, but you can't start the car. You will get an error message on the dash if the shifter is not in its proper place. My recommendation is to take your car to the dealer for a warranty repair as a loose knob is not normal.
To remove the shift knob, first place the car in park. Then while lifting up/out off the stalk (straight out from the angle of the shifter) with both hands, twist the knob back and forth. It requires a lot of effort of lifting and is not an easy type removal. It's definitely a two hand job. There are no screws in the knob. It's strictly a lift and separate while twisting motion to remove the knob.
