I have a 2015 Volt with 22k miles on it. I am having several issues with it. I am very disappointed in the quality of Chevrolet. After years of driving BMWs I switch to Chevrolet with high hopes but now I regret it. I need help and I am upset about all the problems I am having. And our fear is compounded because last week we received a letter in the mail about the gas pedal issue, how it can rip off when exiting the car. This is the last straw I need a Volt advisor to contact me as I am seeking a buy back.

Here is my list:

1. Rattle or Popping Noise Heard in Rear Hatch Area. It's scares my wife whom I bought the car for. She thinks it's going to explore and a major source of embarrassment to her in the carpool line when she picks up the kids because everyone it happens someone always looks.

2. When switching Mountain Mode off after use on highway for less than 20 miles, Gas display remains on and will not switch over to Energy Screen.
a. Most times turning the car off and re-starting resolves the issue.

3. Center Console Screen Freezes.

a. Turning the car off and re-started ? still frozen

4. Center Console Touch Screen Unresponsive.

a. Turning the power button off has no affect.

b. Turning the car off and re-starting ? resolves issue most times.

5. Center Console randomly crashes and reboots.

a. Only radio and energy screen available.

b. Center Stack goes dark, then Chevy logo reappears with chime on music.

6. Climate Control Screen ? Unable to turn heat/ac function on or off.

7. Climate Control Showing 45% when turned off.

8. Electric Propulsion Battery drains to fast.

9. Remote Start doesn?t work all the time.

10. Rear hatch lock sticks (Liftgate-Lock Actuator). Pieces of plastic fell out.

thanks!

The gas pedal does not rip off. SOME people who must weigh a LOT have been using it as a step stool apparently. I don't know who exits their car by standing on the edge of the gas pedal, but some do and have cracked their pedal. Is this you? If not, nothing to worry about.

1.When (under what conditions) is the pop in the back heard? Regularly during the drive, or just once or so? Could be the spoiler expanding in the warm sun (or contracting in the cold). Could be a loose roof pad under the roof liner that has come undone and is sliding around.

2. This is normal. Until you use up the electricity created by the gas engine and stored in the battery, the car will count the miles as gas miles.

3-7 Have the dealer fix this. Take a video to show them what's happening. They are all likely one issue manifesting in different ways.

8. Battery drains too fast? Compared to what?

9. Operator error

10. Have the dealer fix.

The car comes with a warranty. Use it.

Have you taken the car to a dealership to address any of the issues you posted above?

1 is fairly common unfortunately. There have been a few threads on how to fix it here.
2 is normal operation, and not a problem.
3-5 are problems, and your dealer should replace the center stack under warranty.
6 If you are saying you can't manually turn them on and off, that is how it's designed. The climate controls are undoubtedly the worst part of the car, you just have to learn to work around them.
7 I never even look at that screen, because I don't really care that much
8 What are you basing that off? How many miles do you get during the summer?
9 Without more details, I can't help
10 Easy dealer fix.

All cars are bound to have a few problems. That's what warranty's are for. You're not going to get a buyback for these very minor problems. They should be quickly corrected by the dealer.

I had a bmw and you cant go worst than that. If you have a 2015 am sure you are under warranty. Pick a good dealer who will listens to you. If one doesnt hear your call for help go on to another one. Dont think all service department are the same.

My volt came with a rattling hatch, but all I had to do was adjust the little rubber feet by twisting them and the rattle was gone. It took less than 2 minutes. I have seen my center console get stuck or reboot, but maybe once or twice a year. You probably need to get the dealer to spit new software into the center stack to see if that helps. Or they might have to replace the center colsole with one that isn't defective.

I own a BMW 5 series, and I've got to say my volt has been much more reliable and cheaper to maintain so far (knock on wood) than the BMW. It doesn't help that my local BMW dealership was well known for being service con artists - I walked in with a leaky power steering hose, they tried to convince me it was bad motor mounts, I went to bravauto.com to buy the hose and replace it myself, the leaks stopped, and I never stepped foot again into the BMW dealership. they became so renowned that they ended up going out of the business and selling to someone else who is trying to fix their tarnished local reputation.

My daughter went to the BMW dealer for the Takata airbag replacement. The dealer found $4000.00 worth of repairs needed. One repair was belt replacement, $90.00 parts, >$200.00 labor, the ever-present shop supplies $20 bucks or so. Pelican parts cost about $30 bucks. I replaced both belts in under 30 minutes, and I have never done that job on that particular model. With my experience now, it would be 15 to 20 minutes. And I didn't use any "shop supplies". Unless a couple of paper towels counts. My daughter was very happy to save $300.00. The other repairs were brakes, we'll wait until the sensor goes off, and some suspension parts that would have a whole lot of wear to go before it becomes a safety issue (and you'll feel it in the steering, long before failure). We'll keep an eye on it.

You may be the first poster to long for the days of BMW reliability! :D

Not clear if you bought the car new or used. Really seems like a ton of problems for one Volt. If it's still under warranty then you definitely need to take it in for a fix.

Your actually quite right on the shop supplies charge. It's a fancy way of saying towels, soap and any other clean up supplies. Yet just another over inflated charge to get the customer to pay 5000% for.

I have to agree with everyone else in saying to have a dealership take a look at your lists of issues. As for the buyback option, I don't think they'll even entertain that until they've exhausted several attempts to repair the same/related issues. Unless you want to just trade it back in and lose on the deal I would suggest that at the very least allow a trained tech to address these issues and report back. Some may be "operator error", others may be software related, which can be higher probability with a car this heavily reliant on programming, and there may very well be a real failure of some piece of hardware. At any rate, I would definitely let the dealership address this issue, especially since it should should still have all of it's warranties in effect.

Agreed. Typically a poster would sign up here and ask questions before a purchase. Research if you will. It is a rare and infrequent subset that uses their first post to detail a laundry list of problems.
I maybe going out on a limb here, but I think that becuase the OP is not the primary driver therefore not invested/familiar with the car as most of us are with our volts which seems apparent by some of his complaints. Since it is his wifes car, I think his honey-do list kept growing over time and now is frustrated becuase the list is large and needs help and has to deal with it.

Luckily, there have been a number of informative post that will help him. I think the most helpful have been the ones suggesting that he find a helpful dealer. Yelp reviews or dealer rating websites are a good start if he's not happy with the one he bought the car from. Hopefully he gets these resolved soon and gets out of the dog house.;)
