I have an intermittent problem with the park assist feature. For a while I was getting a message that said, "Service Park Assist". Now I hear some chimes, but there isn't a message. I know what it's talking about though. Maybe I selected "dismiss" and now the message won't show anymore. What happens is when I start the car the park assist fails to initialize and won't work after that. Sometimes the little LED next to the P doesn't come on. Sometimes it does but it still won't work. About a quarter of the time, or less, it does work. I'm wondering if anybody knows if this is a software or hardware problem. I'd say it's hardware. I plan to set up a service appointment for it.

Are the sensors covered in road grime /snow / ice?

I had this happen recently on my gen1, and I think it was because the car was crusted in road salt. It happened after driving to work during falling snow, with the roads heavily salted, and parking it all day so it got cold and dried on the car. When went to leave I got the fault message.

Washed the car and all became good. Not sure it's cause and effect, but it fits pretty well.

Interesting idea. I've noticed that my backup proximity sensors aren't working. I just about backed into somebody. We've had some bad weather and my car is covered with salt. I will wash it and see if that helps. That would be something if it is just caused by a dirty car.

Even clean ultrasonic sensors also can freak out in quite cold (~0F and below) conditions, such as alternating between "i see nothing" to "OMG THERE'S A THING RIGHT THERE!" solid-tone randomly.
