bit1817, you are a gentleman and a scholar!

This past week with the Siberian cold blast dropping Oklahoma temperatures to low single digits Fahrenheit, I got the SHVCS message after my 2012 with 81k miles was cold soaked all day at work. This is my first cold weather SHVCS. I've had 3 others previously since Voltec warranty expired in 2020 that correlated with hot temps (with WOT plug in place). I was able to clear those with Android Torque Lite and OBDII combo. This time, no such luck. When my Voltec warranty expired, I purchased a VCX Nano just to be prepared, but hadn't needed it until now...

I was dreading the whole VCX Nano experience. I've been on this forum since 2015, and had read horror story after horror story about how frustrating it could be to get everything to work properly. So, I was super happy to see this thread and how most people had great success.

I spent hours yesterday reading the instructions and watching the video multiple times and just getting my laptop ready for the job. I used my trusty old 2013 MacBook Pro on Bootcamp Windows 10, no problems. You definitely don't need the latest and greatest computer! Today, I configured the VCX Nano and re-programmed the BECM and HPCM2 and cleared the DTC's without any issues.

I simply followed the instructions to the letter. Sure, a few things and GUI's are a little different now compared to 2021, but not massively. If you can just take your time following the instructions and are somewhat computer savvy, you can do this.

THANKS bit1817!!!

Hello All,
Anyone have any issues using a laptop with specs less than recommended by ACDelco?
I'm using an older 64bit laptop (must be 64bit for VMware) with only 4gb vs 8gb recommended memory and an Intel processor a couple generations back from recommended.
Hoping it'll just take longer, but hate to brick it from lagging (...if that's even a possibility)
I use an older MS Surface Pro without any issues.

so i successfully did this in March of 2022 and need to do it again. I still have the computer with everything installed on it but am having trouble connecting to the techline connect, it asks for a login but i dont think i have one. If i enter standalone mode it says GDS2 Lease Expired and i need to close and reopen as administrator but i already did that and it keeps saying the same thing.

is there a short version if the reflash procedure if you already have everything installed?

initially the licenses were expired so i refreshed those and they are now valid

You probably need to create a new virtual machine and try again. Try following the steps as closely as possible. If you aren't using a virtual machine, you'll have to uninstall all the programs and drivers before trying again. I encountered an error like this before I figured out how to get it to work reliably. There might be another way to fix it but your best bet is to just start over.
Hi, I am trying to reprogram Chevy Volt 2013 to get rid of service high voltage charging system error. I got stuck at the error e9044 lock not obtained. Do you know who to get pass this one?

bit1817, thank you so much for your write-up!! I manged to successfully reprogram my 2012 Volt and overcome the SHVCS error! Here are a couple things I found.

Step #10: I was unable to launch Techline Connect. I had the checked the box "Launch Techline Connect as admin" as was shown to be checked in the video. However, looking through the TLC log, it was clear that Win10 was unable to launch TLC due to permission problems. So, I unchecked the "Launch Techline Connect as admin" box and it loaded just fine. The program did not appear to suffer from any lack of admin privileges.

Step #12: This is where the VIN assignment to your subscription happens. After selecting “Battery Energy Control Module” and clicking next, a dialog box appears which states, "Warning: The current vehicle will take one of your available VIN Slots." Simply select the Proceed button and your ACDelco subscription will be updated.

Step #13: I found an unexpected dialogue box after selecting "Hybrid Powertrain Control Module 2" and clicking next. It stated "View next screen for image and description of options to be selected here" along with a drop down menu for selection. In my case, I chose "With RESS coolant surge tank update, includes new anti-tamper bracket on cap" but there may be some Volt owners that will need to instead select "Without RESS coolant surge tank update, no new anti-tamper bracket present on cap"

That's it. I'm so thankful to have this resolved and appreciate your time and efforts!

Yes. I did that. I checked it twice. I'm going to make a brand new virtual machine trial. I I don't think this error has anything to do with the virtual machine stuff. I can't even connect to the website properly. I was hoping somebody had seen this before. I'll keep following the directions but this is extremely tedious. And I'm not a lower level technology person. I desperately want to plug my volt back in again.

The screenshot you included shows you entering credentials into the TLC windows program. I don't believe that is expected to work - and it is not what is described in the document or shown in the video. If you are having trouble logging into the website, it's not clear how you downloaded the TLC program. If you can log into the website, then launching it from there should require no need to enter any further credentials.

I keep getting this error. No matter how many times I try. Suggestions would be fantastic. I need to reprogram my High Voltage Charging Error.

Appreciate it.

Got tech support help in the install TechLine Direct without VM. Works GREAT.
I only connect laptop to my Guest Network ONLY - Protect your network. Easiest and good way to do that.

1. Installed Techline with virus software ON. You start Techline on the website interface.... Start TLC on website. I did NOT check start in Admin mode.

2. Installed VX Manager with Virus Turned OFF - Make sure you only select top check... Passthrough, nothing else.

3. Reprogrammed High Voltage Error modules in less than 8 minutes today. YES !

Hardest part was to get Techline to even install. Very much finicky piece of software.

My car is charging right now ! ! ! Get the Volt I love back. Volt Gen 1 on gas is crappy IMO. But love the car.

I fixed my car. The above is what worked for me. You enter through the website. And now my car is plugged in and I took it for a ride tonight all on electricity.

The techline software is very finicky and very frustrating. But patience prevailed and now my car works.

Hello, I have a 2014 Volt and got the SHVCS error starting in the summer of 2021 when it got hot in AZ. So I bought a cheap ODBII and paid $5 for the Android Torque app to clear the faults in order to be able to charge. When summer passed, the SHVCS error went away with cooler temperature, but returned with a vengeance when summer of 2022 came. This time, though, the fault remains even after summer was gone and remains through the winter until now. I've had to use the Torque app to clear the faults everyday to charge. I have had the WOT defeat plug for my coolant container before I ever got an SHVCS error at all, back in late 2019 and it's not a low coolant issue because I keep my eye on the coolant levels very often.

Anyway, my bi-annual emission test came up in January and I failed because the Emission monitors had more than 2 Not Ready checkmarks. I had no clue that using the Torque app to clear up the faults wipes out the ICE data logged in the emission monitors until then. So now I'm forced to reprogram the HCPM2 and BECM for sure. The lesson learned here is that you can't avoid getting this reprogramming done (either by yourself or by the dealer) by way of clearing out the SHVCS with an ODBII scanner all the times if you live in a state that requires your Volt to pass the emission test. And if you wait until too close to your plate's expiration date, you may not have enough time to exercise your ICE to restore the emission monitors to be able to pass the smog test.

I'm documenting a few bumps that I ran into here, in case it helps somebody else who's about to go through this themselves. The most important is perhaps item 1 below. Perhaps the OP may want to revise his recommendation to stick with version 1.8.4 of the VX Manager in light of this. Also, the Mega web page for the latest 1.8.9 link is gone so the instruction should also be revised per se.

1. I tried using the version 1.8.4 of the VX Manager as mentioned in the instruction to avoid complication that some ran into with later version, but this is no longer a good option. I got the No Device error in the VX Manager, and thanks to a poster earlier in this thread who got the same error and figured out that the culprit was 1.8.4, I uninstalled 1.8.4 and tried to download the latest VX Manager version 1.8.9 B 0601. The Mega webpage that contains 1.8.9 is no longer valid, however. So I tried to download this from the only other VXDiagShop source, but twice it took about 15 minutes to download, only to error out at the end due to a virus error. Anyway, I found a 1.8.8 version on the VXDiagShop website, was able to download it, ignore the virus threat warning, and lo and behold, in the middle of the installation, it informed me that it found a newer version 1.8.9, and proceeded without asking me to download and install 1.8.9. Anyway, with the VX Manager 1.8.9 opened, I no longer had the No Device error. A firmware check showed that my VCX Nano is already at the latest version, which is 1.9.2. I suspect that this is what caused the "No Device" error, because I have the latest firmware version that the older 1.8.4 VX Manager might not have been aware of, so -> No Device found. Anyway, I was able to get the license update and do the passthrough OK, too.

2. I had the same issue as reported by @Perk in a previous post that checking the Run as Admin box does not allow me to open up Techline Connect, although it seems to have been checked in the OP's YouTube video. But it worked fine if I unchecked it.

3. When I was all ready to reprogram, I couldn't get Techline Connect to pass the point where it shows me a menu to Login or Run as Standalone. No matter which of those I picked, it didn't register my selection and just restarted Techline Connect over and over again. I had to reboot the VMWare session and then it started to work OK. I guess when in doubt, reboot.

Anyway, these are the only 3 big issues I ran into in the preparation for the actual reprogramming. From then on, I was able to reprogram both modules OK. The BECM took me 12 minutes, but the HPCM2 took only 3 minutes.

By the way, the subscription has gone up from $40 to $45 for 2 years, like everything else affected by inflation.

Thanks Volusiano. These are the exact issues I was facing last week, but once SPS2 finally took, the VX software was nowhere to be found. Great descriptions. I ended up borrowing a friend's in the end.

Thanks, @Ryan IL . One surprise I found after reprogramming these 2 modules is that right after the reprogram, it appears like I got at least an extra 5 miles of range. For the winter time, my range estimate on battery is around 36-39 miles. But today I was able to get about 44 miles range from the battery. I don't know if it's really due to the reprogramming, but it's just too much of a coincidence not to be so.

Anyway, I'm in the process of restoring my Emission Monitor data. Ran the Volt down to 0 battery miles then switched over to the Mountain Mode and ran for a good 15 minutes / 15 miles at freeway speed, all the way until the battery was charged up by the ICE to 50%, when I almost got home before the engine turned off automatically and switched to battery. Now I guess I have to rest the engine for at least 8 hours for the other data to kick in. Hopefully that'll be all I need to do to restore the Emission Monitor data fully. Will keep everyone updated on this. I do have the Torque app that can tell me the exact status of the Emission Monitor data, so at least it won't be a guessing game to know when I'm ready to take my Volt back in for another emission test retry.

Am I ok running this on a regular use laptop or should I do it on a spare?
The VXDiagShop software is full of viruses, from version 1.8.4 to 1.8.8 to 1.8.9. The 1.8.9 version won't even load because at the very end of the 15 minute download, it just errored out due to virus detection and aborted. At least 1.8.4 and 1.8.8 downloaded OK, and you don't see the virus threat warning until you're running the VX Manager app installation.

I would never want to download and run the VX Manager on my regular use laptop. If you have a spare that you can afford to waste, then OK. But usually a spare that you may have may not be new and powerful enough to meet the requirement for the ACDelco TDS software (Techline Connect).

That was the whole point of going through the trouble with downloading VMWare and creating a virtual machine to do the reprogram from it, to provide a contained environment to prevent any potential virus from spreading into your regular use machine. It may seem painstakingly unnecessary, but that's nothing compared to when your regular laptop gets infected for real. Even if you have a robust anti-virus software to prevent the virus from spreading on your regular laptop, it may be too robust and not allow any VX Manager software to be downloaded at all. Case in point is that version 1.8.9 (the latest) of VX Manager can't even be downloaded successfully at all, even with just the built-in basic anti-virus features from Windows Defender inside the virtual environment.

This might be because of Windows Security, which can be disabled in settings. Either way, I just updated the guide to make things more clear. I did not have this problem using the updated method (Step 8).
