I bought a VCX Nano but sent it back. Tbh I don't trust connecting something so shady to my car, provided software was corrupt and the linked software had viruses.

I assume this can be done with less hassle using the official GM box? https://gmtoolsandequipment.com/en-US/Pages/ItemDetail.aspx?SKU=EL-52100-AM

Note this one is supposedly an actual GM unit and not a Chinese replica.

@bit1817 - first post on the forum and wanted to say thanks for taking the time to write this up. Saved me a boat load of time and money.

I took the liberty of grabbing your excellent google doc and enshrining it in github - when I went through it, there were already a couple changes and notes I experienced, so I updated the doc. I've tagged the commits accordingly, so if other folks go through this process in the future, they can fork/PR and keep tags as well, so we have a versioned history.

The only TODO is to have is a hosted mirror of the installer/binaries so we're not dependent on sketchy/paywalled hyperlinks to vendor packages that may or may not exist in the future. If anybody has suggestions on that, I'm all ears. In the meantime, I linked to the necessary dependencies in the README.md along with some footnotes. HTH (y)

wait - I thought it was the software needed with windows 7 that had the trojan viruses hence the need for a throw away computer or a Virtual Machine os ?

We need a " brotherhood of the traveling black box " with the user suppling the SPS2 subscription from ACDelco TDS
As the hardware is not something we need to keep around.

Just today - I had to call my dealer and say -
remember that charging recall we did 3 years ago ? Well I want to do it again but this time I will pay .

------------------
I did get a subscription from ACDelco *expired now * back them but never put the rest of the computer/software together.

Thank you very much, this got mine working.

I'm running Win10 and I did not use a virtual machine. I had to login to the ACDelco website, and launch Tech Connect from there, the local copy wouldn't take my login.

I did spend hours messing with USB drivers, software, etc to connect the VCX to my laptop (while sitting in the car 😫), went and got another cable, an old beat up Android cable, and it connected right up.

Any way to get the Virtual Machine part to work when Intel VT-x is disabled in the BIOS? I'm on an old company laptop, and don't have access to enable it. Thanks

EDIT / UPDATE: Well, after taking the laptop apart to try and short the motherboard to remove the BIOS Supervisor password, turns out my laptop model was not compatible with that "fix". Therefore, I gave the process a shot without using a Virtual Machine and..... it worked!!!! I used the older 1.8.4 version of VX Manager, so maybe that had something to do with it. Thank you so much for your guide!

Now I guess I just wait a few days to see if the SHVCS message comes back, and if it does, my next step is to replace Defeat Plug sensor?

Curious, now that I have this set up, and a 2 year subscription to ACDelco TDS, is there anything else worth reprogramming for my 2013, or is it more a case of if everything is working, don't mess with it?

1. How about the "disabling option" for having all the windows drop down in a parked car if you hold the fob button down to long.

2. on/off control of charger plug theft alarm ( this may be an in car option -)

3. Higher wattage setting on seat heater - passenger side ( to keep the pizza hot )

Already a configuration option in service department programming.

Is already. See "vehicle personalization" section in your Fine Manual.

Insulated pizza bags cost about $30, and work for keeping frozen pizzas cold on the way home from the grocery store too.

The “Service High Voltage Charging System” message is a common problem on first generation Volts. Often, the only way to fix the error is to reprogram the BECM and HPCM2 modules (even if nothing is inherently wrong with the vehicle). Before you reprogram the modules, you should see if clearing the codes fixes the issue. Also, make sure the battery coolant is not low. If clearing the codes does not permanently fix the problem, you most likely need to reprogram the modules. This can be accomplished by purchasing a VCX Nano and SPS2 subscription from ACDelco TDS.

GM recently discontinued SPS and replaced it with SPS2, so many of the guides are outdated. I recently reprogrammed the BECM and HPCM2 modules on my Volt and made a video and guide. Hopefully, it will be useful for anyone with the same problem.

Voilà is essentially a combination of two words: voir (to see/look) and là (there). So literally speaking, voilà is an instruction. When you use it, you are telling people to 'look there'. So you can use voilà to draw attention to something that you can physically see.

Every time I UPDATE LICENSE, it says “update failed “ error 0 on VX Manager
Any advice?
Looking at way too many videos on this, does the unit need to be plugged into the car to update the Nano license?

It can update without being plugged in. I've had it fail to update and still function okay, but make sure your internet connecting is working.

Is there a software update before the license can be updated?

I also want to extend my thanks to bit1817 and others on this forum for the excellent instructions and video. I know little about car repair and messing around with the car computer was pretty scary for me. I do know computer stuff well so that part of it was familiar. I followed the instructions closely and was successfully able to do the programming. So far my Volt is working fine now.

If there's anyone in the NY area that has this problem, I'd be happy to pay it forward and help out.

Hello All,
Anyone have any issues using a laptop with specs less than recommended by ACDelco?
I'm using an older 64bit laptop (must be 64bit for VMware) with only 4gb vs 8gb recommended memory and an Intel processor a couple generations back from recommended.
Hoping it'll just take longer, but hate to brick it from lagging (...if that's even a possibility)
