I was very excited when I drove my new 2017 Volt off the lot on Saturday. Within minutes, I noticed a problem. When hitting + on cruise control, the car accelerated, as it should. However, when releasing +, it did not set the new speed, but, rather, continued accelerating. The opposite also happened when hitting -. Rather than setting the new speed, it continued to decelerate. Now four days later, cruise does not work at all. The display says Service Driver Assist System. This does not fill me with confidence; quite the opposite. Adaptive cruise is a feature that should be rock solid. It also does not give me much confidence in the car as a whole. One week after purchase, my new Volt will be in the shop this Saturday.

Should I have buyers remorse? Any similar experiences here?

are you holding the + and - until the vehicle reaches the desired speed? If so, that may be your problem. I know on the Gen 1 and I've understood that Gen 2 is similar, it will display somewhere on the DIC the set speed. If you have it set at say 45, and want to go to 55 and hold the + until the vehicle reaches that speed, it may actually set it at 65 or 70 because the mph counter for your desired speed increases faster than the vehicle accelerates. Same with decelerating. There should be a message that pops up and shows your set speed somewhere in your instrument display.

My experience is only with gen 1, but you don't hold the + (or -) button until you hit the desired speed - you'll end up at some crazy speed that way. Either use your foot to get to your desired speed and then press the set button, or tap the button up (or down) 1 MPH at a time. It's a fantastic cruise control system once you learn its quirks, and I expect the ACC version to be even better.

Your driver assist problem may be something else completely.
